Besides the obvious viscosity difference in the first number, what difference would it make to use 75W-90 instead of 80W-90? I have looked up the specs on both fluids and they basically cover the same temp range in performance. Very little difference at all. So why use one over the other?

Message:

Amsoil has offered the 80w-90 for over 10 years.

AMSOIL Series 2000 Synthetic 75w-90 Gear Lube (Product Code TGR), is our latest introduction to the line up, and is our premium top of the line gear lube.

__________ __________

It was designed for the rigors of racing as well as heavily loaded trucks on operate on hot pavement all day.

AMSOIL Series 2000 Synthetic 75W-90 Gear Lube delivers unbeatable protection and fuel economy. It has the film strength required to deliver all the protection heavy-duty and high-stress applications need ... in a fuel-saving viscosity grade. Recommended for use in all passenger vehicles, commercial trucks and race vehicles.

Friction Reduction / Better Power Transfer / Heat Control / Fuel Economy

High Load and Extreme Pressure Performance

The superior film strength of its synthetic basestock ensures protection from wear for gears operating with full-film lubrication. Top-quality extreme pressure agents ensure protection from wear for gears operating without full-film lubrication.

High Temperature Performance

Offers thermal stability and durability, oxidation resistance and shear stability required for optimal protection.

Low Temperature Protection

Ideally suited for low temperature applications. Its low temperature fluidity ensures excellent low temperature performance, protection and fuel economy.

Seal Compatibility and Rust and Foam Inhibition

AMSOIL Series 2000 Synthetic Gear Lube forms a barrier on gear surfaces that seals out water to inhibit rust and corrosion. Foam inhibitors ensure protection in conditions that favor lubricant foaming and consequent metal-to-metal contact and wear.

AMSOIL Series 2000 Synthetic Gear Lube has been shown to help seals perform better and last longer.

AMSOIL Introduces ---

SEVERE GEAR™ Synthetic Extreme Pressure Gear Lubes

_____ _____

AMSOIL INC. of Superior, WI has updated its gear lube formulations in order to optimize its gear lubes for modern applications. SEVERE GEAR™ Synthetic Extreme Pressure Gear Lubes, available in 75W-90 and 75W-140 viscosities, are ideally suited for vehicles that experience towing, hauling, steep hill driving, commercial use, racing, off-road use, rapid acceleration, stop and go driving and high ambient temperatures.

Modern vehicles are designed with more horsepower and torque than in years past, allowing them to haul and tow heavier loads. The result is higher gear loading and hotter running differentials. In addition, factors such as increased interior space and lower floor boards push axles higher into the vehicle's body, reducing air flow and increasing heat. The closer proximity of the axles to the exhaust system also effectively raises temps, while more aerodynamic body styles and air dams restrict air flow to the differentials.

SEVERE GEAR™ Synthetic EP Gear Lubes deliver unbeatable power-enhancing protection, thermal stability and fuel economy in both heavy-duty and severe service operations. AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR™ has the film strength required to deliver all the protection high stress applications need in a fuel-saving viscosity grade at a competitive price. Recommended for use in all passenger vehicles, light trucks, SUVs, commercial trucks and race vehicles.

Steve,
What is the difference between Seties 2000 and Severe Gear lube? I thought the Series 2000 was AMSOIL's best lube.

Amsoil SEVERE GEAR™ Synthetic Extreme Pressure Gear Lube will be replacing the Series 2000. I guess anything that uses the name "2000" seems outdated now that it is almost 2005.

It in an improvement over the Series 2000 ... quite a bit beefier ... with an extra treatment of high-performance additives.
