I was thinking of buying this vehicle, as listed in the subject line. It is a 1999 dakota sport, with a V8 (5.2) 48k miles excellent condition, 4x4 crew cab for a bit over $12,000 can anyone give me some recommendations, or warnings. I have heard of a history of mechanical problems, and I would rather ask here, where I assume the most knowledgable, and up to date people are.

Any postings to either assure me, or prevent me from a mistake would be very very appreciated.

I bought the identical truck several months ago. I have had a problem with the belly pan gasket, it was bad when I bought it but I didn't know it. Be sure to test drive it pretty hard, if you hear pinging and knocking, look down inside the throttle body with a flashlight, if you see oil the gasket is bad. The dealer charges $700 give or take, keep that in mind when dealing. Mine had 38K on it when I got it. Also I had a problem with the PCM but it is still covered under warranty per the Federal Emissions Laws, and I don't think that is a common problem like the belly pan gasket. Other than that I really like it. By the way you can fix the gasket yourself for around $35 if your mechanically inclined.
