Message: Well they seem to be pluggin the Viper engine in the SRT-10 no matter where ya go. Personally I think Dodge can easily squeeze 500 ponies out of a V-8 Hemi. What the problem is I think its DC holding Dodge back on alot of the true potential they could be making. DC already screwed up the mean look of the Viper sports car now it looks like an elongated Intrepid. What I don't understand is there is all these Porsches running around thats European..I saw the new GT2 from Porsche, an inline 6 that produces 454 HP. DC is partly German owned you'd figure they'd use some of the same design as the exotic sports cars to get higher speed w/ a smaller engine. But yes it does look like they're gonna be using the Viper engine unless they changed something.

Message: well i kinda want them to use the hemi, because all of the lighning owners will be saying the samething as the vett owners "yea, but it has a v10" i would LOVE to see a NA v8 spank a sc'd lighting.
and the porche has a flat 6, not a inline 6, but i know you knew that. just had to hassle ya ;-) you have to remember porche gets A LOT of that power from its twin turbo set up. but even in the carrara, 295hp from a 6 isnt bad at all

Message: MikeD lets just hope the price doesnt bring dodge owners to there knee's :P
Well just remember its still dodge even if its half owned by the germans... And at the present the 10 is still there premier performance engine (I realize the hemi is there too and your guess is as good as mine why they arent using it in anything...[we've all concluded it has something to do with the germans]) :^\ Anyhow, Mercedes engines have always been alittle larger than the average European engines. Esspecially the other european sports cars. Although they do have the new AMG model of the 230SLK which has a blown 6 that produces 400 horse (unsure of the torque) Has a 0-60 rating in the 4 second range. I saw one of those at the USGP this year(those were the pace cars this year). Ill tell ya, those things sound like decent sized 8's.

Message: The hemi will of course be in the new Ram. The new hemi is a standard production line motor that will be as common then as the 360 is now. So whill there be a extra tweaked performance version in the Ram? I kind of doubt it, but a 1500 2wd, RC, sport, SB with the 20's and the Hemi will still be pretty cool. I doubt with the weight it still has to carry it would even be able to beat a 4.7 5-speed or R/T Dakota, let alnone a Lightning. Now if the Dakota gets the regualr 5.7 hemi (which is also supposed to have a 5-speed available) then it will hopefully be able to run down the Lightning and for less money. There will be an aluminum version of the 5.7 hemi for the cars that may make more HP less torque that they could use for some special editions. I'm not sure why all along Dodge hasn't been putting the viper motor in a special edition Ram, as the thing is already set up to use the iron v-10.

Message: The Ram SR/T-10 is goin to be produced with the Viper engine and Viper 6-speed tranny. I think it will ocme with 20" wheels instead of the 24's, but everything else is the saem. Color choices include red or black. Now as far as a n/a V-8 competeing with the Lightnings, just wait till 2004 when the Dakota SR/T-8 is released with the hemi.

Message: It's as solid info as I have heard yet. The Ram SR/T-10 production is set in stone for a 2003.5 model year release, and probably a mid model year release for the Dakota SR/T-8 as well in 2004. This site is what I am using for all the info I have posted here

Message: they do make an r/t ram. and you have to special order it. there are 3 in north tucson. And yes they are as authentic as the american pennie its self. And who ever said that the ram is two big for the track your wrong. they have these races called the spectacular drags here. and you race from a dead stop around a 3/4 mile oval. and every time this 99 ram 1500 wins. from my reclection it has beat 3 BMW M3's, all sorts of sport compacts, a supra! 4 lightnings, and 2 gmc/chevy 1500 p/u. and all on street tires.
the ram r/t puts out around 300-310 hp. to my understanding it has aluminum heads, headers, roll pan with exhaust holes dual exhaust (not performance really), performance cam, body kit, way lower than a stock ram, 18" rims, functional hood scoop, traction bars, and different gears and rear end (5-speed or auto 4). you can only get it in black or viper yellow with eiter black, white, or viper yellow stripes. ANd cost around 35k. not bad in my opinion. but this only from sightand ear not dealer. aquired the info from a local R/T club. and the emblems are the exact same except it doesnt say 5.9. so it might be a higher displacement.

Message: ram man, are you sure that isnt something they're ordering from Mexico? Remember Mexico also has an SUV based on the Ram... Thats my guess if a Ram R/T truely exsists.

Message: However Iv been in the R/T Club quite sometime, and they havent noted anything about it on any of the region chapter sites, including the southwest chapter.
Now that I think of it... I saw a ram, almost exactly like you described, last year that filled the profile and had the R/T emblems all over it... Had a Viper hoodscoop, truck was black yellow all over it and it did indeed have the cuda style rollpan... I took a good close look at it but it all looked aftermarket like he had stuck a whole bunch of those R/T stickers all over it. It looked like a real junker to me though... I would figure if it was truely a rare vehicle that the guy would have atleast taken care of it.

Message: Saw the truck at the int'l auto show. It had the Vipers motor, brakes, suspension parts and 22" wheels. It was only a step above a prototype, so it still make not make it to production.
