Subject: 4.7 Oiling system? IP: Logged
Message: I have heard in the past people have problems with the oiling system on 4.7's above a certain RPM. After tracing out the oil galleys on my block this afternoon, I've concluded the only weakness even remotely possible has to be the oil pump... because the galleys are PLENTY big. We're talking .700". So what is the general problem, and cure to the problem? I'm thinking I'll port the housing on the oil pump, and maybe if need be, see if we can shim it... Let me know what some of you know regarding this.
Thanks
Chuck

Message: Wouldn't a larger (ported) hole lower oil pressure? It seems to me that pressure forms when a certain volume flows through a hole that is too small for it.
It seems to me that larger impellars would work better than a larger housing. Try a high volume oil pump. Somebody probably makes one.
