I went thru much the same thing in looking for my 02 CC 4.7 4x2. I did like the SXT package... but didn't want the V6.

However, I wasn't necessarily looking for a stripped down model (I ended up with an SLT+ which is loaded with lots of power goodies) but I did have specific options that I wanted and wouldn't accept one that didn't have them... namely, 4.7 V8, Heavy Duty Cooling (live in AZ), LSD, Tire & Handling Pkg., Taupe interior, bucket seats w/ console, light colored exterior (ended up choosing silver)... stuff like that... and I just couldn't find any on the various lots here in Phoenix that were optioned just like I wanted.

So... I special ordered it... didn't get any guff about it from the dealer. Took my order at "invoice" (with no money down). And even though the rebate period had expired by the time I took delivery I still got the rebates since I'd ordered it while the rebates were still in effect. I'd honestly have to say it was the best car/truck buying experience I've ever had (from a dealer that is)... and I've had a lot of them! :-)

Anyway, sounds like you just got the run-around. But, hey... the 3.7 is not a bad motor... and it sounds like you got a nice truck anyway... and if you got a good deal on it don't sweat the small stuff and just enjoy it! :-)

I got a 2003 Dakota Stampede. All I wanted was a club cab with a manual and the 4.7L V8... Naturally none were on the lot, and since I was dealing with the fleet manager, i got treated like a king. Found my truck a short 30 minute drive away. Since it came with the Stampede Package it had the 16x8 rims, body kit that the rt's used... All this including the $3000 factory rebate and 1% above dealer invoice. I'm happy. $24K CDN after all was said and done.

The most important option of all, is the extended warranty. If you don`t buy it, you`ll be very very sorry. It costs around 1000 dollars and if you think you can`t afford to pay for it, prepare to spend many times that amount in the next few years. If i didn`t have,it would have costed me around 7000 dollars between 2 sets of front suspension on each side, A/C, fan clutch, differential etc. This would be like 10 cents per mile on top of everything else. The other options are based on preferences budget etc. If they don`t have the truck with the options that you want, or have options that you don`t want, don`t hesitate to place a special order. I did. Also, after you make up your mind, don`t forget the LSD differential. This is a most for any performance oriented driver

Yes, but all done under warranty. As to the differential, i consider it to be the best luck possible, cause i will get a brand new one (FREE) at 75K. Beleave me. X warranty works.

I custom ordered my 03 slt cc 4.7 3.9lsd 5sp-man buckets slate-grey-int 17x9's cruise/tilt. My salesman was the nicest dealer employee I ever met. His sales manager and the general manager were !#%&*$^(&W$!!! pieces of @#$@!! who were fired (in no small part due to my letter writing campain) 1 month after I took delivery of my truck.

I got exactly what I wanted, at invoice plus I got the $3000 rebate. The reason I hate those managers is they took a downpayment from me and then didn't order the truck. I raised hell for 3 weeks. I called The dealer every day asking what the order number was. When they gave it to me I called Diamler Chrysler to verify the order was placed and check the status. The first 3 times they gave me an order number they lied! They still hadn't ordered it. I finally called the owner and told him I wanted him to either have my $1000 cash deposit or a copy of the order, which I would check with Daimler while I was there, waiting for me that afternoon after work. This was the end of the 4th week after they took my order and my deposit. The sales manager tried to sit me in a sales room when I came in. I made a scene on the sales floor. I demanded they give me back my deposit. I began loudly listing my greivances against this dealership while calling them crooked, dishonest, deceitful and every other ugly thing I could think of a polite name for. The owner showed up. He took me to his office, pulled a second chair up in front of his computer and ordered the truck while I watched. The next morning (Daimler was closed that late) I was able to confirm the order with Daimler and get a projected production schedule. 3 weeks later I was driving the truck off the lot. 4 weeks after that the dealer's commercials were all about "Under new management". I had written e-mails to everyone even remotely related to that dealership or Daimler's sales division documenting my greivances. The General manager actually told me at one point that he didn't have time to talk to me because he had to go tape a commercial! (The guy called himself "Ugly Ed" and apeared in commercials in a white "Zoot Suit").
