Subject: Strange noise when making a turn... IP: Logged
Message: Not sure if anyone could diagnose this problem for me... My 2000 DakR/T CC has 11,000miles on it and just recently I noticed that when I make a turn (right or left doesnt matter) there is this strange sound, sounds like the squeek a dump truck makes when it stops, only the sound occures as long as I have the steering wheel turned and the vehicle is moving (the sound gets louder the further you turn the steering wheel). When its sitting still nothing. Sometimes it doesnt even do it *shrugs*.
Just today though it sounds like its getting worse and I could actually feel it vibrating the steering wheel. The sound (from the cab) seems to be comming from underneath the area where the bed meets the cab.
Im going to take it in here pretty soon but I was hoping someone could give me a run down of what to look forward to or what might be causing it. (I'm not real worried, I just want to get it in soon though because there is only a few months left on the warrenty.)
Also since were on the topic the truck also makes a strange sound when I put it in reverse when its cold... Its similar to the sound it makes when I turn the steering wheel. That sounds been there for a while though and so far neither of these 2 problems have effected drivability which is why I'v been ignoring them.

Message: Dear Squeaky,
I have heard that the 2000 and up Dak's are famous for bad ball joints. I have a '02 ClubCab SLT 4.7 and if your's is like mine, it doesn't have any grease zerk fittings anywhere in the front end. I have a friend who has a '02 R/T and he has already replaced the right ball joint. My front end moans and creaks especially making hard, tight turns like in a parking lot. I may be taking mine in soon, especially while under warranty. I did have a friend with a '98 Sport that squeaked alot over bumps - turned out to be a bad bushing in the upper control arm on right hand side. Just a few ideas. Good Luck!!William

Message: sounds like either something power steering related or balljoints. from the description given, there is no way to tell which one it would be. ive had both of these go out on my r/t, the only difference is the steering will be firmer wiht low ps.

Message: My 1999 Dak made an awful noise which turned out to be a dry power steering fluid reservoir (of course, it needed fluid) Went away when i filled it. dont' suppose it would hurt to check it out, takes about all of 10 seconds.

Message: Hmm I'm experiencing the same problem in my 2000 DDV8.
Everytime turn the wheel to left or right. Driving or parked it
makes a long loud moaning/high frequency grinding or
whineing noise. It started just last night.
