Subject: O2 Sensor question

Message:
I have a "well duh" sort of a question for all of you. I have a 97 CC V8 with 76k mileage and haven't replaced either oxygen sensor. I haven't had the tell-tale check engine light as I would have expected if they had gone bad. Should I just replace them or wait for the light? My gas mileage sucks big time (12-13 city) and it's making me wonder if the O2 sensors may have something to do with it. I have already replaced plugs, cap, rotor and wires. Any ideas??

Thanks,
OJ

ok your engine is a 318 right? o2 sensors can make your truck run rich. at 76k miles i would change em out. if you wait til the light comes on, you might risk your catalytic converter.

Thats about all the miledge you will get from that truck, I only get 11 in my 01 and my 99 is about the same...both have v-8's and are 4x4's. I would save the money on the o2 sensors since they will probably not help at all.

Thanks for the input. Yes it is the 318. I had a rental truck (new ram with 4.7) and couldn't believe how much better that engine is on gas, especially in the ram which is quite heavy. I must say I was impressed. I may go ahead and replace the sensors anyway since it is getting up there in mileage.
