Subject: Which truck? IP: Logged
Message: First off, the is one of the best sites out there, very helpful. Not to start another 5.9 vs. 4.7 war, but I plan on purchasing a dak soon. My question is that I'd really like an r/t, but almost want a truck with 4x4. What do you guys think?, by the way, it would be garaged in winter if r/t and I want an automatic. Thanks

Message: Well, your choice is limited if you want a 2004. You can only get a 4.7. The only way you can get a 5.9 4x4 is if you get the Quad cab. I've driven a 4.7 in auto an manual tranny. The auto didn't feel very powerful, but the manual did feel like it had some power. 5.9 (only available in auto) definitely feels stronger than 4.7 auto. The advantage to the 4.7 auto is that you can get a 5 speed auto. The 5.9 is a 4 speed auto. Hope this helps a little. Bottom line is, you'll probably just have to drive them to see what you like. If I was going to get another Dak today, it would definitely be the 4.7 with a manual tranny. I think it is the most fun to drive out of what is available.

Message: My first Dak was a 01 cc 4.7 2wd auto. I thought the truck had plenty of power but the first time I went to the mountains and tried a dirt road, nothing tough I thought, I had problems because I didn't have the LSD. With only 13k miles I traded it for the same truck with LSD and 4wd. Make sure if you get an RT that it does have LSD. All I can say otherwise is that I'm very happy with the truck I have now except for the warping brake rotors. Otherwise, it's been a great truck.

Message: yea i have an 03 with the 4.7 manual and 4x4 RC, the only thing i wish it had was the LSD, other then that it came pretty loaded, but the best part is other then the big rims and tires you cant tell it has a V8 with a stick (thats the best part)

Message: The R/T's are just about gone. I've kept up with 2 slow sellers that have been around here in Tennessee since January. I thought about an R/T, but I put 30K+ miles yearly on my Dak, and the R/T's 13 or so MPG is a long way from my 4.7 5-speed 3:92 18-20 MPG. 66K miles/ runs like a top.
