Subject: Name That Noise... IP: Logged
Message: I have a Question for you folks...
2000 Dakota 4.7
Auto 4X4 16000 mi
Cold Morning start outside temp 30 or less.
when I release the key and disengage the starter
I get a loud 1 second long groan from the engine.
The dealer said they are not going to try to diagnose it if they can't reproduce it. >:-(
Any Ideas?
When I am sitting still and turn the steering wheel I hear noises and feel vibrations in the steering wheel. Anybody have similar problems?

Message: PS pump. It is normal for it to make a sudden groan on first start up in cold weather. Shouldn't make any noise after that.

Message: Not too sure of your "groan" but my '93 does that vibration thing when I turn the wheel. Especially if I'm really cranking it fast as if trying to park in a tight spot. I was told by my Chrysler mech friend that it is the belt slipping on the power steering pulley and is normal.
