Subject: 4.7 auto tires wont spin IP: Logged
Message: I have a 02 QC 4x4 4.7L dakota with an auto tranny, 3.55 gears and the anti-slip rear end. As hard as I and my friends try to get spin, we cannot. At first they thought it was me but when they tried they couldn't themselves. I have intake, exhaust, and headers. IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY TRUCK? Thanks in advance.

Message: I have a "01 4.7 auto QC w/3.55's and have 31k on my dak. I'm currently purchasing my 4th set of tires (275-50-17). I modified the TPS .73v which made a remarkable difference. I also have a homebrew. If I hit the gas quick it just lites'em up. I bet you have great top end power but may have sacrificed some of your low end torque with the free flowing exhaust. I've always wanted a line-lock for my brakes just for fun. Hope you get'em spinning.

Message: I understand spinning tires is cool... especially when you have an audience, but it sounds like it isnt a lack of power. But instead you have plenty of grip. If you and I lined up at the light, and we both floored it, you would beat me. I spin my tires constantly now that ive dumped cash on my dak. My tires are balder, and I have to feather-back on the pedal and lose response time in order to keep them from burning at the stop. Be glad, be content, and save some cash on your tires.

Message: ...and the reason you WANT to spin tires is....? Look, dingee, if you wanna go fast, go to the track and build a car...your Dakota is never gonna be fast. You don't have the kinda funds it would take... junior...or you could build the car first, THEN go to the track!

Message: Thanks for the responses guys. Its not that I really want to burn four sets of tires per year and its not that I want to be beating vipers. Im just making sure nothings wrong with my truck just cuz i can only get em spinning on certain occasions. By the way jsst--what is a tps(and whats the cost, etc) thanks again

Message: Throttle Position Senser, it's on the drivers side of your throttlebody. Two phillip head screws hold the senser in place. The electical plug for the connector has three small wires comming out of it.
1} unplug the wire connection
2} unscrew the senser and take it off
3} remove the brass sleeves where the screws
came out, either by using a screwgun and
drillbit slightly larger than the brass sleeve
and spinning it out, or I took a socket the
same size as the sleeve placed it on one side
and a larger socket the sleeve would fit
inside of and used my benchvise to pop them
out.
4} install senser using small washers with the
screws. mount senser snugly and turn senser
counterclockwise as far as it will go {which
is very litte} and reconnect electrical plug.
5} using a multi meter with ignition on {lowest
DC volt setting and perferably a digital one}
ground black wire and using the red test wire
poke though the middle wire comming out of
the tps plug and read the volts. any where
from .7 volt to .75 volts is good.
6} rotate senser till you get the highest reading
then tighten screws.
The best I could get was .73v, it eliminated the hesitation when nailing the gas. Best of all you feel it imediatly {no waiting for the pcm to learn anything}
I bought my multimeter at Harbor Frieght for $2.99 or borrow a freinds.
Hey Matt hope it helps. If you want to get your tires to spin press the brake pedal real hard then let up just a little, this gives you a good bite on the front brakes and releases most of the pressure on the rear ones. Hit the gas and release the brake pedal about a 1/2 second after,
once the tires break the initial pavement grip then the real fun begins.

Message: All this does is eliminate the hesitation 4.7's have when hitting the throttle hard from a dead stop. This will not hurt the engine at all. Ideall setting should be .7volts-.75volts, check your volts before you take the senser off, everybody has different readings. I heard it range from .31v-.72v from the factory. I actually
found out about the mod on the boards, if you have the time check out the archives.
ps, when I was younger a buddy of mine had a '66 Plymouth Belvedere with a slant 6 cylinder and a push button transmission, none of my freinds had never seen one of these before. My buddy was talking $hit about how fast it was. He lit the tires up on this thing and bellows of smoke just poured out of the wheels. Me and my freinds were scared to race him, whats really sad is I had a '71 stingray and I did'nt wont to get beat by this ugly old car that my grandma could out run on her rascal. Later on we learned that my buddy wiped his tires down with wheel bearing grease just before we had come over to see his car. I've done this acouple of times, its a great
trick to play on your freinds. WD-40 works too!
sorry for ramblin on, hope the mod works as well for you as it did for me,
later!!

Message: I have the 4.7 auto L/S with a Kenne Bell S/C. It is still hard to light my tires up. Don't worry about it. If your not spinning than your hooking up. Which is much more important anyway. The Limited slip really does it's job!!!!
LIMITED slip........... aka limited spin.

Message: hey dude my dakota doesnt spin the tires either. I had stock 31s and I run 33s now. I can spin the tires in certain ocasions depeniing if its concrete or asphalt. I can brake stand the truck and Ill light them up easily then. I prefer to hit the gas and go than hit the gas and spin
