Message: '01 QC 4.7 2WD -- thats 2WD! with a "service 4wd" light on. I checked the error codes-
"P doNe"....means no error? correct?
I stopped at my local dealership (BTW out of warranty by 4000 miles) and was rudely told that it was the Body control module? if the guy had front teeth I might have been able to understand him. the service manager I normally deal with was off today.
So did I hear him right...is there a "body contol module" that might be faulty. I honestly can't afford the labor rates of a dealership (still paying new baby medical bills)and so I need some help here. whats going on with my truck?

Message: TSB 08-032-00A DEC 00 4X4 Service Lamp - ON, 4X2 Vehicle
instructs the dealer to replace the AC control. The AC control in your truck is sending some incorrect messages via the vehicles data bus. The Instrument Cluster thinks it should turn on the 4X4 lamp.

A TSB doesn't mean the dealer will fix it like its warranty work...correct? So its still an out of pocket expense...correct?
Forgive my ignorance, please. I am still learning the ins and outs of having bought a new truck.

Message: Yep, a TSB fix comes straight out of your pocket, since you are out of your warranty period.
I seriously doubt it is doing any harm at all. Just makes the light come on. As far as I know.

Message: I did a search on this sight after my original post. Seems that there are a few possible reasons including the above mentioned TSB. But none seem to mention any harmful affects on the truck (except the guys that actually have a broken 4x4).
If anyone knows the part number or can point me in the direction of the where to research the TSB in depth, I would appreciate it.

Message: Get back in touch with your normal Service guy.
With that mileage, he should be able DSA (dealer self authorize) and do it under warranty.
If not.....
Call DC's whiner line!!!
You are only 4K out and this problem is common enough to have a published TSB. They should do something for you.
Just today, I had a Ram come through the shop with 41,000 and it is getting a new condenser fan and a PCM flash under warranty. <--- TSB applies.

I just cured the same problem on my '01 CC. The Service Bulletin concerns only '01 vehicles built prior to October 13, 2000. The TSB lists four different P/Ns depending on configuration:
55055905AF Assembly, HVAC Control, Dakota with A/C and rear window defogger
55056408AE Assembly, HVAC Control, Dakota with A/C, without rear window defogger
55055906AF Assembly, HVAC Control, Dakota without A/C, with rear window defogger
55056409AE Assembly, HVAC Control, Dakota without A/C, without rear window defogger
I ordered P/N 55056408AE but received 55056322AA so the numbers may not be accurate. The Service Bulletin # is 08-032-00 Rev.A in case you need to contact the dealer.

Message: Question for you, is it a glitch that the 4x4 light came on? Or is something legitimately wrong with your truck to make that happen?
If nothing is wrong and it is just a glitch, just pull your dash cluster out and pull the light bulb from the back of the cluster. And take it when you get the cash.

I don't think the bulb is removable. According to the Manual it is an LED soldered onto the circuit board. The only replaceable bulbs are the ones for illumination and the high beam and turn signals.
When the light illuminated on my truck I did not notice any other problems. The truck ran normally. I just didn't want to see the light every time I drove it. I paid $150 for the HVAC Control Panel so that may make it easier to just live with it.

Message: Okay I'm not sure about 00-03 daks but the cluster in my 97 featured light bulbs that could be pulled on any signal. Literally once the back cardboard from the cluster was peeled away you could take out any light you wanted. I capped mine with blue covers and gave my guages a blue look to them.
I'm not sure what the new clusters look like, so im very interested myself if it is possible. Taking my cluster out of my 02 is a lot more difficult than my last dak so I would like to know as well, before I go through the hassle.

Is there something I can use to back that up? Not that I don't trust what your saying but would you walk into the dealership and say "some guy on the web said so" ?
And again forgive my ignorance, is the PCM whats responsible here, somewhere else it was refered to as the BCM (body control module) like the service guy told me. someone else also stated there are multiple control modules....are they all considered part of the emissions system? Tuesday I am making another attempt to get DC to fix this (without my $$$) and any ammo I can have would be greatly appreciated.

Unless the dealer tells you that a PCM flsh is an adjustment rather than a replacement. Then it is not covered, charge... $137.00.
If I am not mistaken, I believe they are to put a different part number on the PCM after the flash?
If so, I think a small claims court may award a refund. If the part number has changed, it is a different part, if it is a different part, then a replacement must have occurred.
