Subject: dumped or dual?? IP: Logged
Message: which is better for performance dumped exhaust or dual out the back with a flowmaster? right now i have the dual flow and was thinking about dumping it if it would increase my hp. which is better more restrictive or less restrictive? and has anyone heard about XTREAMFLOW RACING exhaust? are they any good?

Message: do you mean true duals, or single into the muffler and split it out?
i wouldnt do the true dual. i had them on my 318, and even with the supercharger, and a bunch of bolt-on's, i lossed power over the single 3".
if you are talking about running dual after the muffler, its just a personal preferance. you will not pick up any HP at all. it looks cleaner IMO without any tips, and you will also save a bit of weight by dumping it, but all in all, its just based on personal preferance

Message: i have the single in/dual out. but i want more power, but i have no $$ so i thought by cuting off the pipes after the muffler and puting turn downs would maybe make a diff, would it?

Message: I doubt you will ever find any two people to agree on this subject but it is my opinion that single in dual out from the cat back to the rear bumber with 2 1/2 pipes is a happy medium. That is what I run on 97, 318 4x4 and still have good low end torque and sounds great without being to loud. However I am not a fan of Flowmaster and I run V-Force Performance Exhaust. Never heard of the other one you mentioned. V-Force you can read more about at flopro.com/VForce.html

Message: here is what i did.
1-put a 3" cat back on... noticed nothing
2- put a 2 1/2" high flow cat in... noticed nothing
3- put a 3" high flow cat in... gaind a LITTLE on the topend. definatly not worth the price of the cat
4-took out the cat alltogether and enlarged the pipe from the Y-pipe to the muffler to a 3"... gained 1/10 in the 1/8.
5- put a true dual exhaust, with dual HF cats, X-pipe, and dual spintech mufflers.... lossed torque and topend
6- took out both cats... got REAL loud, and still didnt make any power.
7- put the old 3" system on.
you will not gain much or anything by changing the muffler, or the amount of pipes comming out of it. the only thing you can do, is take out the cat, or add some headers, and even then the amount of power you will gain, isnt much..

Message: It has been my experience if you dump it all you will gain is noise and perhaps fumes in the cab. You will most likely lose torque because of the loss of back pressure with shorter pipes. RUN IT OUT THE BACK!

Message: it will get louder in the cab, but no fumes in the cab.
you will not loose or gain any torque or HP
