Hi all , newbie here , just wanna say first off that this is a great site and I'm already learning stuff , I just gotta read some more . I have a 2002 Q/cab 4x4 that has 16,000 km and it has always has a bit of a rough idle when sitting in gear and it seems to be getting a bit worse ,seems like it has a miss so I'm just kinda curious if this is a common thing with the 4.7's ? I dont really wanna waste my time taking it in to the dealer if its something that they say is common . Thanks !

My 03 qc 4.7 auto 4x4 with 17k idles like outlaws, except when AC or defroster bumps the idle up to 750. Mine used to idle at 650 but since about 10k it comes down to almost 500, especially after coming off hwy. This seems to be common and I`ll live with it if only to avoid a "death flash" like fix.

"Death Flash"

I asked the dealer about stuff like updating my PCM when my truck would be in there and how I heard about certain flashes such as ones that backed off the timing so there is no problem running 87 octane, etc so I expressed my concern about how I would rather they not do that to my truck. They acted like they knew nothing about flashes or updates that did any such thing.

I just don't want them deciding to do such a thing while mine is there for normal service especially if it would hinder performance that I so much desire to imrove, not reduce!

Might try a bottle of Lucas Oil fuel injector cleaner and see if that helps. Should be able to get it at any good parts store.

Clean your IAC plunger and port. It's on the bottom of the throttle body on the driver's side.

And if that doesn't do it, just turn your idle up slightly. Looks like you need a special tool but you can turn the adjusting screw by grabbing the threads with a pair of needlenose.

Here is an article concerning the "DEATH FLASH" you were talking about but I don't think the fix he recommends will work for the 4.7.

Mine was doing that also. I took off the TB and I cleaned it with a old toothbrush and carb cleaner. I do it every 15K miles. stopped it from rough idling

Hiya, I have a 2000 quad and at around 37000 kms i had a rough idle. Then it finally threw a code. I had a misfire in the 7th cylinder. The dealer will tell you first that you need a tune-up and then from there they will look further. They wound up with my truck for a day or so and it turned out to be a fuel injector. But it didnt cost me a dime because of the warranty so I was lucky:) Good luck with yours.
