Message: M1 is a good start, 1.7 Roller rockers.
Throttle Body + Cold air intake.
That combo would run ~$1350

Message: I'd say to start with MSD6a ignition. $150 that will give you immediate boost.

Message: If you aren't running a SC, or NX.. the MSD isn't going to give you much of anything. Been there done that. The MSD plug wires are way over rated, and problematic-- Ask someone who runs them to pop the hood at night with the truck running... You'll see a nice light show.
Rockers, TB, programmer (for the '02 and up guys)--- go that route first.
If you can do it, do the mods one at a time-- so you'll see what's working, and what doesn't
I've dyno'd my truck without and then with the MSD6A-- no difference on the dyno.

Message: Honestly,
What you do depends on the #'s you want. In my case and many others building the lil ol stock 360 is going to void your warranty, drain you wallet and not give you much of a gain. The way to go is save yout money and get a 408 stroker with a charger or spray. You were in Elkton @ nats and still wanna build your 360???? Personally my 360 had a ton of mods and it wasn't worth the cash. I paid more my 360 mods than i did for my 408 and didnt see anywhere near the numbers.
Here are some sites for more info to check out the 408 and other 360 mods if you dont agree with me.

Message: Sam, I guess different trucks run differently. I personally found the MSD to give me a feelable difference. If you dynoed yours before and after then thats rock solid proof it did nothing for yours. Maybe I was just wearing more sensitive clothes the day I installed it. I also noticed a difference at the pump. Reguardless, I had my MSD running for 6 years and 70,000 or more miles and to say the least, it never gave me problems. I do have a friend that had his unit just stop working and leave him stranded. Luckilly I still have the stock coil installed and connectors installed so its a 30 second hustle to get it back to stock if necessary.

Message: another opinion: M1 4 barrel(more flexible for
future upgrades), long tube Hooker Super comps,
large 2 barrel or a 4 barrel, MP PCM or custom
flash, underdrive pulleys, 3.92 or 4.10 gears,
1.7 rockers, 14" air cleaner, bumped
timing(free), shift kit. Total $1800.00 Best
start is with the M1 and headers. the rockers
will help the M1 and the headers breath a little
more if you don't plan on a bigger cam.You can
go about any direction from that point. I still
average 17-18 mpg@ 65-70mph and weigh 4600#, ET
with tranny shifting early was 15.0, 90 mph. I
plan to add a shift kit, converter, and go on a
diet. For the doubters: please don't raise the
BS flag. It takes 21 gallon to go 360 mile.
