I'm moving to cali w/in the next month or so and was wondering about the emissions tests. I've got a 2001 r/t. So would I have to get inspected right away since I am just moving there or how does that work. I've read that you don't have to do it if the truck is 4 years or newer, but what if you just moved there, since CA and other states have different emissions standards.

i just came from CA.. and let me tell you... CA SUCKS for emissions if you have had, or are planning on mods for your truck. lucky for me i only had to spend 4 months in that hell hole. im a marine, and know how smog checks in cali work, im not sure about the civillian side, but im pretty sure you need to smog it if you plan on registering it there.

The first thing DMV will do is try to make you pay 300.00 for out of state car or truck,dont pay it it is against the law for them to do that. then you will have to smog it, if you have any mods they will have to be ca exempt, oooooo by the way tags are going to triple, that if you pay 100.00 this next year you will pay 300.00. if your tags are good wait for the last minut to get them.if they say you can just pay them with out a smog check, dont pay them just do the smog check if it will pass

I still have about 9 months on my tags so i'll definately wait till my current tags are up. Were there any differences between CA r/t's and non-CA r/t's? The truck is stock, will I have to worry about passing inspections? I will have to pass the BAR-97 Emissions Inspection System

Where in cali are you moving to? I'm in Southern Cali and smog is not as tough as some people make it out to be. There are plenty of heavily modded R/Ts here in Cali that pass smog, so you should be just fine.
