Subject: Hissing sound IP: Logged
Message: I have a hissingsounds when idling and when I shut my truck off...it goes hsssss...
Some guy said it might be a clogged CAT. Anyone have any other ideas. I'm going to bring it in this week hopefully anyways.

Message: Check all of your vacuum lines and especially the line going to the PCV valve that plugs into the rear of the oil fill standpipe.

Message: It sounds weird but I had a strange hissing
noise for about a week, Right before my fuel
pump took a dump.

Message: My dak 5.2 makes the same sound but only when using the A.C. When i shut it off it hisses for about a minute then stops...

Message: Thanks. I will check all of these. It doesn't matter if the A/C is on or not though.
I've had a 3" body lift on for 2 years now. I hope nothing got stretched out.

Message: check the vaccuum line that goes to the throttle body. I have a 2002 dakota ext.cab with the 4.7 ad it did the same thing,couldn't figure out what it was.the hose actually split were it connects to the throttle body. It almost looks like the hose diameter is too small for the little thing it goes on to.I haven't done it yet but i got a piece of 3/8" hose with a 3/8" to a 1/4" connector gonna see if it works.

Message: My truck makes an annoying hissing sound. There is a TSB on this. My dak is out of warranty but the dealer has the heat shield for about $8.

Hissing Sound When Water From The Evaporator Drain Drips On Exhaust
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves installing a revised exhaust system heat shield containing a drain trough to route water away from the exhaust system.
MODELS:
2001 (AN) Dakota
2001 (DN) Durango
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
A hissing sound may be present when water from the A/C evaporator drain drips onto the exhaust system.
DIAGNOSIS:
If the condition is present or the customer indicates that the vehicle exhibits the condition, perform the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
THIS REPAIR IS COMPATIBLE WITH DAIMLERCHRYSLER'S MOBILE SERVICE PROGRAM AND DOES NOT REQUIRE HOISTS OR OTHER FULL SERVICE FACILITY SPECIAL EQUIPMENT.
WARNING :THE ENGINE AND EXHAUST SYSTEM MAY BE EXTREMELY HOT. ALLOW SUFFICIENT TIME FOR THE ENGINE AND EXHAUST SYSTEM TO COOL PRIOR TO PERFORMING THIS PROCEDURE.
1. Locate the heat shield in the engine compartment directly above the right side exhaust manifold to front exhaust pipe connection.
2. Remove the two screws attaching the heat shield to the bulkhead and remove the shield. Discard the shield.
3. Install the new shield, P/N 55257336AB, with the drain trough located at the top.
POLICY:
Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.
