Subject: 4.7, 5.2, 5.9 V8's Daks IP: Logged
Message: I'm not sure why you r/t's pick on 5.2's and 4.7's. And I'm not sure why 5.2's think they're so much better than 4.7's. All I know is that I've owned a v6 and a inline 4 and I've never been more happy to get back to a V8 no matter what size it is. Dakota owners have the distinction of being the only people to have midsize pickups with big engines, rangers don't even compare, and S-10s are mexican mobiles with playschool plastic toy looks. I guess since nothing compares to a V8 Dak we have no one else but ourselves to pick on...

Message: I am sorry but a 4.7 5 speed and 5.9 are on a level playing field stock. The 5.2 is the odd one out with less power. The 4.7 is growing in popularity with more and more parts becoming available. I am a little partial because I have a 4.7.

Message: the reason the 318 went into retirement is the same reason the 5.0 302 from ford went into the history books. look at emissions companys are now trying to build lower emision engines the 4.7 is a modular design and creates lower emisions which is why dodge went with is also why ford switched the the 4.6 and 5.4 and 6.8 ford went totally modular. the mopar 318 has been around for just about as long as the 302 both engines have perfomed exellent in 30 years. the time for change came and they made it to the modular engines. as far as power the 4.7 gain 5 hp over the 318 with a loss of 5 foot lbs of torque personnally i would rather have the torque. thats what gets u off the line.

Message: too bad the 5.2 only makes that +5 tq at 1500 rpms, wlile the 4.7 makes that -5 tq from 2500-6000rpms, with a slight dip at 4200 rpm. I personally would like to have power over 3500rpms than only 1000. maybe its cause i know how to read a dyno chart, and look at whole performance, not 2 stupid numbers.

Message: Yeah....ever hear of a POWERBAND? usually pretty important, and the reason that a 4x4 auto 4.7 can take a 4x2 man 5.2. Tq does no good if the only time you have access to it is "off the line." If you have no high end power, your vehicle is gonna fall flat on it's face after 15mph.....hmmmmm....kinda like the 5.2

Message: That is funny about the twin turbo 4.7. To THIS DATE I have seen no pics of the engine itself or any said turbo's!
That aside, the 318 was and is a bad ass motor and I never knew of any bad oil pump because I have driven 318's with 200 to 300K miles on them stock.
The 4.7 is a great engine so far, and technolodgy RULES and eventually the 4.7 will be making loads more power than it does now.
I have a 4.7 4X4 Quad Cab, tow package, etc. It runs pretty damn good and pulls my trailer with 2 quads no problem and has kicked some RICER ass a few times as well. Since I have a 4.7, I'm all for advancements and an increasing demand for performance parts.
