Message: I have something similar to that on my '91. Whenever I fill up, it drops below empty, comes up to half, drops to empty again, then reads properly. My best guess would be either a bad guage, bad sending unit, corrosion/bad wiring, etc.
Of course, when it goes from full to 1/4 over a period of a couple of hours, that's just driving a 5.2/auto in the city :)
