Message: Hello All,
I am a Newbie to the Dakotas and V8’s in general and have searched the archives for answers but as usual the search option is not very good and you get some old versus new post going on. First my truck is a 2000 Club Cab with the 4.7l Auto, 2 wheel drive. I picked it up because I just bought a new house with a good deal of land, and I have a race car that I need to tow. I got it because I like the look of the Dakotas, I got a good deal on it, and I did not believe I needed a truck as big as a ram. For the 2 weeks I have had it I have been very happy with it. But anyways I have a few questions, and I realize these have been asked a million times, that kind of the nature of the web, I do appreciate anyone who takes the time to help, and anyone who does not want to please don’t let me take up anymore of your time by flaming me. I race Imports so I am mechanically inclined so don’t feel like you need to take down to me, For the record I race DSM’s Eclipse/Talons, My strip street car runs lows 12’s, my full race car runs 10.8’s I have time slips or perhaps if you don’t believe and have a lil cash on hand we can arrange a meeting. But anyways I realize as a car enthusiast there is much better information available from the people who own a certain car then what the general public can provided—Example best plugs to run in any 4g63 Motor is a NGK Bpr7es but that plugs is not listed for that motor anywhere, in fact I am not sure that plug is stock in anything—lol. Well here goes sorry about the length .
-Performance-I had planed the following to pick up a few pony’s for towing and maybe a lil better gas mileage- Gibson SS Back exit Exhaust, Helix TB Spacer, Cold Air Intake w/K&N filter. And Perhaps Some sort of computer control—I don’t like the 100MPH speed limiter.
-I Have no Idea on when or what has been maintained so I am going to do everything associated with the 60K Service truck has 70k on it now. I am looking for pointers on Spark Plugs, Wires, Going to do the rear with synthetic fluid I like Redline Any suggestions-heavy Weight Shock Proof? I read these things eat O2 Sensors? Anything in particular I should replace? What’s the best parts to go with—brand etc, any good places to get them, basically I want all your wisdom in 1 post yea I know I am demanding.
Any Tid bits, tricks, or you just need to know this please let me know, if you want to e-mail me directly please do at ongreenperformance@comcast.net
I thank everyone for their time, and effort

Message: the tb spacer is bunk, don't bother. the best mods for the 4.7 are: cold air intake, h.o. cams, fastman or f&b throttle body, and a kennebell computer flash...good luck and have fun

What are you running for Mobil 1 in the Motor 10-30 or something a lil thicker? What do you find is a good weight for the rear end OEM specs or a lil thicker, I will be doing towing.

Message: corey,
i concour with 'pitt', stay away from the tb spacer. i cant give motor specifics because my knowledge is based around my own truck (5.9 r/t) But.. if I were you, research exhaust a bit, about 80% of the people I know that have had gibsons, flowmasters, magnaflows, or what-have-you, have traded them in for spintech. It doesnt cost any more than any of the above mentioned brands, and the sound is one of a kind. anyways.. as far as TB's go.. I personally bought a F/B, its a nice, polished piece, flows better than fastman, but get a little pricey. I'm not familliar with 4.7 intakes, so i cant comment on that, but have you thought about a gear swap?.. a lot of people are very happy swapping all the way up to 4.56, a big difference from the 3.55 you probably have, or maybe you were lucky enough to get the 3.92's. Theres bunches of places to help with your PCM needs. Personally, I get 95% of my parts from john at www.southeastrt.com, yes its an r/t site, but tell him what you got, and he'll help you out. very nice guy to deal with and i have yet to find a place to beat his pricing. Hope I helped a little bit.

Message: corey.. im not trying to insult your intelligence, but what does engine size have to do with what kind of catback you can use?... so it might require a "little" modification, and no muff shop will charge you more than 75$ to weld it up for you

Message: No wires to change on the 4.7. Each plug has its own coil. Notice you won't find a distributor so no need for traditional wires.
