Subject: The ending to a very lonnnnnggggg story IP: Logged
Message: Well, way back at the begining of this summer I dropped HO cams in my 4.7, which resulted in a serious problem I've been trying to deal with for months now. The light at the end of the tunnel is finally in sight...although I wouldnt call it much of a light...
Somehow I have bent a valve (or valves for that matter). I dont know how this happened, because I made certain that all timing marks etc. were lined up when I put the new cams in. But alas, something was off that I didnt know about. After swaping the cams out and in several times, and even sending them back to Mopar to have them checked (they were ok), I finally gave up and had enough with the ticking and the crappy running/crappy gas mileage, so I brought it to the dealer so they could look at it (local mechanic didnt want any part of it). They want to put new heads in it because they say I've damaged both. On top of that they will not install the HO Cams because they have no record of ever doing such things, and they cannot back up the work. Price tag: over $3,000 for parts and labor.
I'm at the mercy of the dealer though....they have my truck all apart.
Worst of all...I'll be paying a ridiculous amount of money to get the truck back to where I had it from the begining....

Message: Give this a try. Have the dealer send the heads out to a machine shop for an opinion. Talk DIRECTLY to the machine shop to get their view.It may cost a little more, but what's $100 when dealing with a repair of this type.
By driving it after bending valves, YOU may have ruined the heads. Get a 2nd opinion.
BTW- the dealer may refuse to warranty the work if not installing new heads

Message: Man, that really, really sucks. I'm glad I have a cousin who's a tech at a Dodge dealer that did my HO cam install.

Message: FL 4WD- I've thought about getting a second opinion....I just may do that. And I'm sure I did do alot more damage to the heads by driving it around alot, but I didnt have much of a choice.
Andrew...the thing that really pisses me off is that I knew exactly what I was doing...or so I thought I did..

Message: Thats what you get for f'n with it to begin with.To many people have ruined their vehicle just to gain a tenth or two in a 1/4 mile and the money they spend to do it...its crazy. Buy a 100 shot and its there when you need it and if used responsibly your engine will last for ever, aswell you gain up to a second in the 1/4.People quit pissing with the internal componants and you will fart around a whole lot less and actually get some results.

Message: Mr. Blow. Has it ever occurred to you that not everyone that owns a v8 Dakota is concerned with 1/4 mile times? Many people, like myself, have installed the HO cams for the nice torque gains. These torque gains are useful when towing large, heavy, un-aerodynamic objects behind their truck.
Call me crazy, but I bought my truck to use as a, well, a TRUCK! Towing, hauling stuff, etc. Please explain to me how a 100 shot of nitrous would help me tow my 3,500 lb travel trailer more efficiently?
What? You mean I can't leave the nitrous on for the whole trip? Well what good does that do me?
