Subject: V8, 5 speed.... IP: Logged
Message: I am going to own a Dakota soon, and I'm trying to decide between the R/T or a Sport 4.7 5 speed.
I know what the R/Ts can do when you punch it. :D
But if I had a stock Dakota 4.7 5 speed, and floored it off the line, what would happen?
Small burnout? Big burnout? Or would it just grip and take off?
Also have any of you V8/5 speed owners had any problems with tire hop?

Message: I have a 2001 Dakota Sport with a 4.7/5spd. I can't answer the burnout question but this truck is fast...very fast. I could probably burn the tires off the rim but I'm not interested in burning up my tires. I have also the sure grip axle with 3.92 gears.
Not only is this truck fast and can haul nearly 6500 lbs it gets great gas mileage. Around town I get about 19 mpg. Not bad at all for a truck that has this much power.
Not sure what you should do but I think you would be more than happy with a 4.7/5spd Dakota.

Message: Thanks man. I love the R/Ts but they don't come with sticks. I hate automatics.
Anyone else have any info on the tire hop thing?

Message: u must be a 14 yr old kid if ur choosing to purchase a truck by the amount of burning up the tires it can do. if u put 195/70/16 on that 4.7L 5spd u can burn them up till they explode. u want a RT to grip and take off? why dont u put some 295/55/17 on the rear and see how well it grips.

Message: well, it doesn't sound like you want to do a burnout... I have a very hard time with my 4.7 5spd hooking up, and when it does half assed at the track, it wheel hops really bad.. if you can get the power to the ground, its an awesome truck, I've ran a 15.2 in the quarter on my stock good years, with a 2.4 60 foot time, I'm hoping with traction, I'll be in the 14's.. R/T's are nice, but if you want one, wait till the hemi goes in, if you want one now, buy the 4.7

Message: I have a 2000 4.7 5sp. My best run has been 14.91 with 275/60/15 Firestones @ 18psi. Pulled a 2.07 60' on another run. Traction is possible, wheel hop happens mostly on the street for me. Just a Flomaster and air intake for mods. Gear jamming is so much more fun, go for the manual.
