Subject: Speedo Sensor Gear to Calibrate?? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 97CC that I just put larger size tires on.(32x11.50) I went to the Dodge dealer to have them reprogram my computer so the speedo, odo, and digital gas mileage counter would be right again. I was informed that the 97's did not have electronic speed sensing and thus the computer could not be changed. Dodge had no suggestions for me. After extensively searching through old posts on this site, I have read that if you change the speedo sensor gear or speedo gear you can fix the problem.
Has anyone done this? How do you know what or where to get the gear? Is it hard to change?
Please help.
Thanks

Message: How bad off is it. I have a 97 with 35x12.5's and mine is only off 1 tenth of a mile for each mile on the odo. The mpg average seems to average about 1 mpg off. Suggestions on a fix I do not have. Mainly just posted to see how far off yours is compared to mine. Someone else lifted the truck and added the tires, I just bout it two weeks ago, so I'm not sure if the orginal owner did any re-cal. or speedo gear swapping.

Message: Well honestly I havent taken the time to calculate it out totally. The biggest difference Ive seen is in the MPG. According to the overhead console, Ive dropped almost 3 MPG since the new rubber. I know some of that is the tires(Mud Tires) but no way is it all that. I went from 31x10.5 to 32x11.5. I will calculate it out tomorrow though because I want to know what the % difference is. Its probably not that huge of a difference.... more of an annoyance I suppose.

Message: You may want to think about changing your gear ratio, large diameter tires like you have need to have something like 410 gears in to regain some MPG.

Message: Ok.
So here is my calculations on how far I am now off. The truck came off the assmebly line with size 215/75 tires. On goodyears website they said that the wrangler tire in that size had a outside diameter of 27.6. The brigestone tires I have now have and outside diameter or 31.8. Now if I divide 27.6 by 31.8 I get .867 or 86%. This means I am about 13% off correct? Anyone feel free to critique my math skills.
So if that is true then when I am driving 60 I am really driving 67.8. At 30 Im doin 33.9. Sound reasonable?
