Message: i got a 2001 4.7 and i was wonderin if adding flow masters with a single inlet and dual outlet would increase horsepower and make a deeper louder sound, also what size pipes should be used

Message: Is your stock exhaust 2 1/4 or 2 1/2? You will not lose power swapping a stock muffler to a flow. You may not gain much without changing the stock cats and manifolds but changing mufflers with a flowmaster the same size as your current pipe will not at all lose power.

Message: Yeah, definatelyl louder. The 40 series 2 chambers are Flowmaster's loudest that I know of. Swap out your stock cats if you can find a shop that does it, and you can start gaining some hp and more noise. Carsound converters which created Magnaflow mufflers are a good aftermarket catalytic converter.

Message: I'm extremely happy with my Flowmaster 70 with 2 1/2" custom duals. I actually had the same setup on my former '92 5.2 RC, so I can double verify how well it works. Combined with less air intake restriction (I use a K&N drop-in w/alloy homebrew), I picked up a solid 1 mpg and bunches of throttle response and performance. The air intake was the key; performance difference with just the exhaust was minimal. You have to consider that D-C did an awesome job from the factory with exhaust manifolds that flow within 2% of headers on the 4.7. The 70 series muffler (also called Big Block) sounds similar to the 50 series out back, but lets very little noise come through the floorboard.
