Message: I just replaced the Plenum plate on my 99 5.2 and I did have to remove the bracket your talking about. It has six bolts holding it to the block. All are accessed through the front, so your will have to contend with the fan, don't remove the fan just watch your knuckles.

Message: It is an easy job. To give yourself more room, try removing the radiator and shroud. It gives the job much more room and your knuckles a decent shot of keeping their skin.

Yup, the brackets have to come off. One thing that could be holding it - you say it bunches up around the t-stat - is the bypass hose from the waterpump to the front of the manifold. Also if I remember correctly, I think the steering pump has to come off to gain access to the bypass hose.

Message: thanks alot guys! i took that bracket off, wow so much easier. however there was so much dirt that was around the gaskets and a bit fell into the engine, but i used a wet/dry vaccum, a toothbrush, a towel and got hopefully most of it out, spend about 2 hours cleaning all the surfaces, tomorrow morning i will put on the M1. i have to plug the threaded hole thats right in the center in the m1 when looking down into it right? thanks (also does that one guy still sell those large and xL turtles?) thanks!
