I have a 97 dak with a 318 and im gonna put on an mbrp split dual catback exhaust, and while I have the exhaust apart I want to put on a highflow cat. I did a search on the forums and car sound seems like the best cat, but do I get a direct fit or a universal fit?
if I go with the universal fit, what size should I get? Also, where is a good place to get one.

If you can legally go without one, DON'T put a cat.... High flow is relative. Compaired to other cats it might be high flow.. or compaired to a potato in your exaust, but compaired to a sideways roll of TP shoved in there a cat is low flow.

Plus they make a ton of heat, and we all know how heat kills all.

Do not remove your 'cat'. Keep it where it is.

i bought a catco before i decided to just gut the stock one completely. which one you buy depends on what kind of setup you wanna run. i cant imagine youre 97 is any different emissions wise from my 99 5.9. if you buy a universal one, youre gonna have to weld in a y pipe because universal cats only have one in/out. your dakota (at least mine) has a cat with two inlets and a single outlet. like everyone else says... if you can, go catless and get an o2 sim. if you must have a cat.. car sound and catco are the way to go from what i hear. take a peek under your truck and tell me what kind of cat you have. if you have a dual in/single out.. ill sell you the catco i have, never been used. (and im in california! - SCREW emissions- lol). let me know because i got orders that take me to the east coast next week friday and im taking leave for 22 days.

thanks for the offer pete but I have a single in/out. I guess our setups are different, just out of curiosity do you have 2 precats on yours?
Also I'd rather not go without the cat but I cant find a good site to buy one.

If you're interested, I have a 3" in / 3" out catco hi-flow cat I bought new a couple weeks ago. Turns out I'm not going to use it, though, so it's just sitting there. If somebody wants it, I'll take shipping and beer money :)

Take a drill, drill out the spot-welds, remove the potatoe, TIG the holes shut and tell 'em you thought you had a cat. unless you have echeck, then bend over& kiss your $$$ goodbye. Win if you can, lose if you must, but always CHEAT!

In canada we don't have to worry bout them... Not sure about newer vehicles (like post ODB-II '95) but anything else it don't matter. We had free emission testing in my home city (edmonton) a month or so ago and some people were POURING the blue and black smoke out their exaust and they were told about all the emission problems but the cops didn't do a thing.

Does anyone from Canada know where I can get a high flow cat for a good price. I was thinking about just removing it or gutting it but I have a 97 and the sensor is right after it.
