 Subject: Help! 98 5.2L Won't start

Help!! I got in my truck this a.m (98 Dak Sport 5.2l 5spd 4x4), put in the key and turned it, and as usual , all my idiot lights came on etc.. I go to start it and no dice. Everythig dies, my gauges are all out of whack, and all the idiot lights go out.
I tired several times again, and the dash indicators are intermittent and my gauges flutter slightly. I hear a faint click under the hood, but nothing to indictae the starter or solenoid is doing anything.
I tried to roll start is, now my truck is half a block away! No luck.
I tried to jump it, and still nothing, it just does what it did first thing this am..
Any ideas? Thanks!

..But if the battery was dead, would it not still start with a jump start? Or a roll start and run off the alt?

Check the neutral safety switch at the clutch pedal.

Thanks for your help guys...I took the initial advice and went with a new battery and all is well. I checked the charging system and it is functioning fine too.
It wouldn't jump because I put one cable on the + terminal, and one on the chassis...Had I jumped directly to the - post, it would have worked. Duh.......
