Subject: Towing with clutch fan removed IP: Logged
Message: Based on the recommendations of fellow board readers, I removed the clutch fan on my 02 QC 4.7 about nine months ago. I still have the stock thermostat but have not run into any temperature problems at all, even living in south Louisiana.
However, I just bought a 19' travel trailer and plan to go on our first camping trip this weekend. Do any of you that have removed your clutch fan have any experience towing with it removed? I don't really expect a problem this weekend, since we're only going a few hours away to Mississippi. But, I'm more concerned if I take longer trips to the mountains or out west. I'm a little concerned about overheating.
Any thoughts on this?

Message: i removed mine for months never towed anything but since its so easy to remove and replace and its not like your going to be drag racin! towing a traler just do the safe thing put it on then take it off whene you get home. the power loss at high rpm is not enough to notice.

Message: The 180 t-stat is also asn easy, 'should go with' fan removal mod.
Godd advice just to turn it back on if it starts to get hot, no wrenchs needed.
If you're going forward though, I really don't see how it would unless you're idling alot.
Good luck.
