I have a ultra flow on my dakota. Its a little bit throaty. the 2 chamber is way loud. Ive had them both on the truck. If you like loud get the flowmaster if you like jsut a mellow tone get the Dynomax

Im actually thinking about taking the 40 off and putting on a couple of dyno ultra flo bullets. Has anyone heard them on a v8 dak yet? Or does anyone have them or even a sound file?

Thanks

Not that this has anything to do with Dakotas, but I put Hooker Comp headers on my '70 318 Coronet bolted to 40 seris (2 chamber) Flows and it sounded great at low RPM but had that glass-pack crackling sound at hight RPM. But if you have stock cats, you shouldnt have that. Hate to say this but I have owned early '90's mustangs w/ 2 chamber Flows and sounded greate, but they had at least to cats on them to help muffle the noise. I guess its up to you. Brad P.

I still think Flowmasters sound great on V8's like our Daks!

Just don't expect one to sound good on a smaller engine. I learned that one the hard way.

I love doing this...

03Dak,

What part number flowmaster did you get installed? I was thinking of getting the #942542 with center-in/offset-out.

Thanks!

QuadDak,I don't remember the part number. I used a 40 series delta flow 3 inch with the center in offset out. I almost bought the louder old school 40 series but they were out.

I do love the sound of mine. I will go true duals in the future. The only thing I can say is don't expect one of these to sound good on a small V6 like our Chrysler we have. It sounded too much like a Ricer and had an aweful drone at cruising speeds. I had to remove it from my woman's car and go with a cheaper Holley brand muffler. But it's great on my truck, it's loud when I gas the biatch, but no drone at all at crusing speeds.

I've had flowmaster 40's for 6 mo's now and I love it. Really beefy at wot but it can be a little dronny at a constant speed (60+) if you have them turned down by the axle. I like mine although I may throw some glass packs in for fun later.

Thers a few of us here in OKC that met together one afternoon. Neat thing was we all had flows that were dumped by the axle. One of us had JBA headers and his truck sounded great! I'm gettin JBA's when ever I can afford it!

if the only mod you are doing is exhaust on a 4.7 you WILL loose enough torque too seriously effect performance. Its all about the Torque on the street, you may gain a few hp but thats on the left side of the tach.

If you want to know more about a particular exhaust muffler go here

http://www.exhaustsoundclips.com/compare.html

Read this page, it will break down the exhaust system for you. You can click on http://www.exhaustsoundclips.com/cfm.pdf tocompair cfm which is the measure for how restrictive your muffler is. I personally am going with the Dynomax Ultra Flows. It is one of the least restrictive mufflers you can buy. Some will argue that you need back pressure in these motors but that is for a stock motor only. I am planning on doing mild to major mods on my truck. If you plan on installing an air intake, the HO cam and intake manifold, and 70 mm throttle body, you better go with a very free flowing exhaust if you want to get the maximum benefit from your mods. If you are only going to do an intake and exhaust go with a more restrictive exhaust otherwise you will lose too much backpressure which will result in a loss in torque.

For all of you that are going to yell at me saying the 4.7 needs back pressure, why is it that race cars run open headers, answer: its less restrictive.

So it all comes down to what you are planning on doing to your truck. I suggest leaving you exhaust alone until you have done all your other mods. If you are just looking for a good sound, go down to your local muffler shop and he can cut off your stock muffler and install a length of pipe. From what I have heard on other trucks it is pretty loud, sounds kind of like a 1950’s Buick. If you run it like that people are going to be looking for flames out of your tailpipe. j/k. and it sound ok.

My Dak with FLowmaster 40 series Delta Flow.

(Turn your speakers up)

I plan on going true duals soon. Probably 2 inch thru 2 inch high flow cats and continue the 2 inch to the mufflers and 2 1/2 inch out after the dual flowmaster mufflers. I may go with the 40 series "OLD SCHOOL" rather than the delta flow at that point. They should set off some car alarms for me :-). Should be about right for our 4.7
