Message: I didn't say the 5.0 mustang was the fastest of the 80's I said it was the other fastest, meaning 2nd place. The GN was the fastest of the 80's. Still it was only a high 13 to mid 14 sec car pure stock at best. Every car you talk up is turbo charged. There are a bunch of non NOS street Dakotas in the 12's with blowers and Duners with the turbo. The Turbo is the key. I'd say any Dakota with no other mod besides a simple singe turbo will run down a stock GN with ease, then your at least comparing somewhat apples to apples. Try comparing the Dakota to naturally aspirated stuff and you will see it hold it's ground well. And with the R/T compare it to other NA automatic stuff or look at new stuff under $20,000 and the R/T shines like a diamond in the rough. There will be NOS-less R/T's in the 11's this summer I promise, but they probably will be running the stroker crank.

Message: All kinds of articles... Times vary from 13.4 to low 14's... And these are from a wide veriety of sources including motor trend... None of them chalked it up as being any slower than 14.2. 300 horse and 400 pound feet of torque with the GNX is a hefty bit.

As far as NOS'less 11 second R/T's go thank you for the information other than our little debate. My other question is... 408 stroker motor? or Blower for the 360?

Message: A buddy of mine has a '99 RC RT that runs consistant 12.20s here in Phoenix. It's a stock block 5.9 with some head work, headers, slicks and a Vortech supercharger. Stock cam, intake manifold and throttle body. I believe he could put it into the 11s almost anytime he feels like, just by running better fuel and turning off the boost retard system. The only problem with that is that they would boot him from the track for lack of roll cage and fire jacket. Since he drives it to work every day - he doesn't want to put a cage into it. The truck would also run easy 11s by going to a track with better traction and atmospheric conditions.
As far as I'm concerned..... it runs 11s. Oh, and for the record it's a HOOT to drive!
