I've looked through the old posts, but I can't find the rpm limits for the 4.7. The reason I am curious is yesterday I used WOT to get on the freeway and the rpm went to over 5500 before it shifted. It seemed to loose a little umph before it shifted (as if it exceeded the optimal shift point). I am just wondering if my engine needs some sort of adjustment. I'd hate to break something while acting like a teenager. Yes, I have the auto. I also don't race the truck (obviously), just haul junk (and kids).

Thanks. I guess that means I didn't hurt it when it did rev to 5500. I'd hate to break my toy, I mean truck... I don't do that every day.

Don't worry about it,,if you take good care of your motor that is.

I hit the rev limiter every day on my '01 4.7 - and I've got nearly 70k miles on it. Runs great.

the momentary loss of power could be the overlap in the transmission that you are feeling. a shift kit will fix that.

I have the same "flat spot" in my 4.7 auto when it shifts at about 5400rpm. Been told that the engineers program the computer to briefly retard the timing at the max shift point to help keep the load off the tranny and extend its service life. If that's the case it sucks. Waiting for the shift kit for the 5 spd auto to come out.

The last time I rev'ed a V8 that much (in high school, a LONG time ago) I blew the engine (oil and engine parts all over the place), so I just don't want to repeat that high school stunt.

Well Doug,

With the HO cam and intake, it'll easily go to 6K, no problem. I do have the 5spd, the real one, the manual in my quad cab though.
