Low gears (higher ratio number) decreases top end speed. High gears (lower ratio number) increases top end speed, so if that camaro in your previous post w/ the 2.73 gears received anything higher (3.08, 3.55, 3.73) the top end speed would have decreased and not gone from 150 to 177.

if you paid attention, i said it went 177 because of its 2.73 gear. Never had anything else in it besides them. I said it was limited to 150 via a speed limiter.

i never said we changed the gears to go 177.

Hey Gears...

Be carefull what you throw out there! Especially on a post that people with a little gray matter read. You stated that low gears decrease top end... I beg to differ!

Most vehicles on the road today run out of power long before they run out of gear. Try pushing a truck, with more frontal area than the broad side of a barn, down the road with 2.73 gears, 28" tires and 250HP and see how fast you go. Then put 3.42's in it and try the same.

Better yet, go test drive a 5 speed Honda Civic from the late 90's, go flat out in 4th then change to 5th and watch your speed drop like a rock.

Simple physics my friend...

It was a nice cool houston night... I was out with my friend in his 99' trans am... We came up on 3 mustangs, cobra r (fake), supercharged cobra, and a gt. We pulled past the fake r and the gt to the supercharged cobra. To our surprise it was a drop-dead gorgeous female. My friend and this girl dropped to second and mashed it. A struggle at the start, but soon enough she was overtaken by the power of the ls1... Flashers came on and the girl slowed down. We were being pulled over. My friend began to shuffle for his license and registration. The police officer walks up, obviously aggravated. "You boys know you're going to jail tonight?". My buddy said "No sir, why." I just sat in silence. My friend handed him his license along with his military id and insurance. The officer respectfully said "You guys are marines?" We nodded. He said "I thought you were some little punk ass 16 year olds. Well I can't screw up what you guys have going but as of Sept 1, 2003 you can and will go to jail for illegal street racing. Slow down, have a good night." Although we did eat up some stangs and a vette earlier that night. It wasn't worth screwing up and going to jail, so just forewarning for any of you that don't know... You can and will go to jail for street racing in Texas now. It is equivalent to a DWI (class b misdemeanor). Be safe everyone.

I would like to see the dyno ticket on 47kota's truck. I dont think just a few simple bolt on's will give you that kind of power, unless you got a SC or nos under the hood.
