The weight difference from a four banger to an 8 is big and I would highly recommend upgrading the front springs! For springs, I found these springs at truckperformance.com (here's the link):

http://www.truckperformance.com/products/?searchtype=d&sortorder=&urlsubcategory=Suspension+%26+Chassis&productcategory=Lowering+Kits+%26+Components&sf1=DODGE&sf2=1989&sf3=DAKOTA&sf4=LOWERING+COMPONENTS+%28BUILD+YOUR+OWN+KIT%29&sf5=EXTENDED+CAB

This link is for an extended cab but springs are also available for single cabs. If your looking for stock height springs, I'm sure you can purchase some stock replacements from a dealer.

As far as shocks go, there are quite a few different shocks available on the truckperformance site.

You should also check to see if your balljoints & bushings need replacing. Being that your truck's suspension is old, get it all done in one big shot!

Ok thanks alot, ya a total front end upgrade will be done, it is not a problem considering me and my father own an automotive garage and I'm an apprentice mechanic. Thanks again.
