'97 4X4 Dak with 5.2l, auto tranny
Installed a Hayden Black Magic electric fan kit w\180 tstat. Overheats BADLY in So Cal...have to run with heater on at red lights in stop and go traffic (is there any other traffic here?)
Was wondering if a heavy duty radiator would help with heat buildup...dealer says all 4X4 with v8's come with heavy duty rads, but from what I've read here, they only come with factory towing package, which I don't have.
Any help out there?

Message: I had the same problem with my 96 w/ a 5.2 here in GA
I replaced everything, thermostat, water pump, hoses, clutch fan......etc.etc
I replaced the thermostat first & used aftermarket thermostats 180 and then a 160.
I have a friend of a friend that works for Dodge that solves "mystery" problems for them.
He told me that the only way my truck wouldn't overheat is if I put a 195 thermostat back in and buy it from the dealer. and the reason is that the Radiator is a bit small for the V8's.
and the coolant needs to flow at that speed any faster or slower & it will overheat.
And it actualy worked, it's been 90-95 Degrees here and no problems w/ the A/C on in traffic.
I'm not sure if the Gen III has the same issue
but you may want to give it a try.

Message: I had the same problem a few years ago with a 302 Ranger I built. A guy a Advanced Adaptors suggested going to a higher temp thermostat to help keep the coolant in the radiator a little longer. That keep things under control but later installed a 4 core radiator.
