My 5.9, full time 4x4 QC down shifts strangely! I've only been testing it at 50 mph or less but this is what it does. You depress the throttle, jumps from say 1700 rpms to low 2000s but might only stay there for a second or two and drops a few hundred rpms. Like maybe the torque converter is unlocking and then locks up right away. Anything else I've ever driven though the tc just stays locked during downshifts. It defintely feels weird like it can't find the gear it wants!

I have a 2001 Quad 4.7. Mine does the same thing and has since it was new. It also does it at at 10 or 20 mph and will suddenly downshift to low and then right out of it. Transmissions shops will tell you that Dodge transmissions are junk.

All newer lock ups that I know of will unlock and then lock back up when ever you take your foot off the gas then re apply gas and during some shifts. That is normal.
