Subject: Quick Exhaust Question. PLEASE help. IP: Logged
Message: Hello guys,
I did a search on here before I decided to write this and still didnt find much.
I wanted to know:
1. What is the stock pipe size on the 5.2?
2. Should I do a true duel system becasue of the
y-pipe restricting the flow?
--If #2 is a yes, where can I find some O2 sensor fakes?
I want to do a full exhaust job and want to do it right! Any feedback would be great. Even if you all want to argue about what the best system is :) Personaly, I'm going with Vortex muflers, and i'm pretty set on them, I had them on my 3.9, and loved it, cant wait to hear um on the 5.2.
Thanks in advance guys!

Message: Brad, thanks for the input. I'll definitly look at the Hookers.
What about the stock pipe size? Does anyone know what this is, or should I just get under there and try to measure it.
Untill I save up for the headers, highflow cats, and pipe. I was going to just get a performance muf and put it in there for now. I know its cheap and wont give me the power the rest of the mod will, but untill i save up for the whole package it'll work :)

Message: I'm a GenII owner but... I think it is 2 1/2 from the y-pipe back!
As far as true duals, I would hate to say no because there are a LOT of believers on this forum but...
In many cases a single pipe will flow better than 2 simply due to pulse scavenging. I would recommend buying your headers and puting whatever pipe size your collectors are, probably 2 1/2, through mandrel bends to a Flowmaster Scavenger and then run a single 3 or 3 1/2" high flow system from there. It can get expensive to do it correctly but you will receive better results from your other mods. Just as a rule of thumb, if you don't have mandrel bends use bigger pipes. Mufflers are designed so well these days that if you could bolt them directly to a good set of headers they could produce more flow than a straight pipe and provide torque building back pressure at the same time. It used to be the muffler that caused the restrictions in a good exhaust now it is the bends!

Message: DakToBasics,
Thanks for the input. I'm thinking now, just to do a single pipe, maybe a double out of the muf. But prolly not the true duals like i was going to before...
What is the differance thou between mandrel bends and, well... not mandrel bends? Dont mean to sound dumb, but you dont learn from not asking :)
Thanks again for the posts!

Message: Mandrel pipes are a smooth bend while normal pipe bends have kinks or indentations in them...I think hope that helps.

Message: Nice! I think if you take it to a exhaust shop they bend the pipe, and if you buy a kit, its a cast mandrel pipe...sounds like it anyway..
Thanks guys!
