Subject: How hard is it to get into the 13s IP: Logged
Message: I'm 18 and now that I have a good job I want to get rid of my junk Bonneville for a truck to fix up. I figured the Dakota is probably the easiest truck to fix up to go fast in its price range. What mods will I need to get into the 13s and 12s?
Thanks in advance

Message: a whole lot, if you are watching your cash flow but want something in the 12s or 13s I would not get a dakota. Even though it is very possible to pull off 12s and 13s in a dak, and you look pimp doin it... you will soon find yourself dropping way to much money into the truck than what it is actually worth. but if ya have the money....go for it!....Ha...your next question is prolly going to be "what is faster a 4.7 or 5.9?" "Which one has more aftermarket parts for it?" and before everyone else on this forum corrupts you let me inform you that the dakota R/t is a Damn fun truck to drive! and that is what I would personally recomend....drive safe.

Message: Or if you want to do it the easy way just buy a Gen II dak (lighter the Gen III) and drop a 408 stroker into it. You'll be in the low 13's real quick. It'll still be very streetable and as long as you don't make it look like it hauls A$$ noone will ever no that you have a potentially 12 second truck.

Message: An average probably of 125-175lbs depending on the year. This is of course comparing RegCab to RegCab and so forth.
Either way you'll probably get the best bang for your buck. Used GenII are pretty inexpensive and you can usually ind one in pretty good shape.
Go to msn.com to compare years and what not.

Message: EASY WITH GEN2 DAK and 318/automatic. easier with 5 speed but tranny mounts are a problem as well as axles.
my automatic ran 14.75 bone stock, later it was consistent high 13s on street tires. with cam, roller rockers, headers, 3" exhaust, throttle body mods, and fipk (k&n), 180 stat.
best addition was fiberglass tonneau cover and 2" drop...this improved it 3 mph and 1/10 on top end.
all mods done for less than $2 grand.
lightweight aluminum wheels(weld, cragar, etc..) are worth a tenth on 60 ft compared to steel wheels. you may ask how to get 5 lug wheels on the dak....easy..'90and earlier front rotors and rear axle shafts are a direct bolt in replacement

Message: "cold air" intake $225 (or make your own for $60<)
nitrous express kit $1100 for all the bells and whistles
and use the rest for either headers or a M1 intake
put the 100 shot pills in it, and should be in the 13's no prob on street tires..
or invest in some slicks, put the 150 shot pills in it, and get in the 12's

Message: Hey I have a question for you guys. What do you think my 1/4 mile time would be. The last dyno it made 281hp/345tq at the wheels. Since then, I added 3 lbs of boost on the Vortech, Mopar M1 2bbl, and a trans-go shift kit. Just wondering what you would estimate my time at.
Thanks
