your looking for good street manners? How good?

I'd advise a Limited Slip if you do roads and are not used to a lockers behavior.

If you want a lunchbox locker got a powertrax, or lockright.

If you want a full carrier go detroit softlocker.

If you want awsome traction and don't mind loosing some tires on corners go with a full spool.

Or the famous ARB is always an option, but then you neeed ait to power it..

I've had a spool, detroit, and lockright. If you want predictibility, go with a spool, but you'll always chirp tires when you go around corners. You'll probably do that with a locker to though, and spools are cheaper.

If you'r really into racing I'd get a spool, if you are just gonna go once in a while then go limited slip.

I'm probably just gonna get a LS and just add a few clutches to tighten it up.

I went with the powertrax no-slip.
It was an easy do-it-yourself install, and I'm no mechanic.
I hated the one-wheel burnout every time I hammered it.
It cured that problem and is perfectly streetable.
There is some very minor lash as the system disengages as you go around corners but I've no regrets.
I'm still waiting to see how the truck handles in the snow this winter.
I've heard you gotta watch you step in the slippery stuff.

Go with a posi unit.Noisy lockers get old on the street. The Posi unit will stand up to anything you probably will ever be able to throw at it.Quietly too.

how much do all these costs? i have a 97 5.2L 5spd reg cab 2x4 with 3.55 gears. whats the best for me? (i hate the 1 wheel wonder i have) and these lockers go into the rear axle? so i would still have to get 4.10s or 4.55s? thanks

Powertrax is about 350-400 bucks. Spools or posi's will wear out tires quicker on the street, also a chance of breaking stock axles when loaded and turning with a posi or spool. The inside tire won't give at all & that puts extra load on the inboard axle. Also tend to "push" in high speed turns.

The powertrax or similar 'locker' will unlock in turns and allow inboard tire to freewheel while in the turn. Can be used with stock gear ratios, carriers & axles. I've been running a powertrax in my '96 SLT 5.2 for several years and I love it. 8.25" axle with 3.55 gears Much better traction for towing or racing. No abnormal tire wear and minimal noise. Just make sure you keep the diff full of oil.

Any locker, LSD, posi, spool, etc will cause some difference in handling. My truck has a slight problem with wheelhop under hard throttle on poor road surfaces. Also has a tendency to fishtail on wet roads in turns, so be careful. The system won't unlock sometimes on the wet roads, increasing the chance of fishtail. In my crazier days, I got good at breaking the back end loose and catching it, to the horror of my passengers.

good luck
