Subject: towing w/ mopar pcm IP: Logged
Message: I have read that you can not tow with the mopar pcm. I need to tow a pop up camper this weekend and am thinking about switching back to my stock pcm. Do i really need to do this? Or can i just add a bottle of octane booster to keep this thing from knocking?
Also, If i do need to change back to the stock computer, how is the truck going to react. I guess what i am wanting to say is would i need to take it back to the dealer to have the vin put into the compter after switching back to the stock?
Thanks,
Nathaniel

Message: with all '98 and later PCM's, once the VIN is programmed in, it cannot be changed and it doesnt go away. once programmed in, its there and forever.

Message: Don't tow with the mopar PCM. From evrything I have read on here towing with the mopar PCM is bad.
Its not that hard just to swap back to your regular PCM and the switch back when you get done with your trip. It's not worth the damage in my opinion to hope the octane booster will solve the problem.

Message: Most pop ups tow pretty easily. Try towing it up a steep hill on a hot day with premium fuel before you go - no knocking, I think you'd be fine. Plan to try that this afternoon with my new Leach flash with my camper. Although not reccomended, I've heard of people doing this with no problem. Switching PCMs will not be a problem if you have to.
