Message: Hello,
I recently got a wild hair to remove my muffler and just put in a straight pipe, but I noticed the factory put a spot weld on top of the pipe! How can I remove this without getting into alot of cutting? I was going to use one of those flexible exhaust pipes in place of the muffler. I know this probably sounds rediculous, but I'm on a tight budget. Please help if you can.

Message: I just put on a Gibson cat-back on my 2001 Quad w 5.9 and on my truck there are little pins on top of the exhaust and the pipe that slides in has a little slot and it just lines up the pipe for install.

Message: OJ I'd loosen the pipe then get a hack saw(your gonna have ta cut it somehow)as your cutting it move it back and forth until the weld breaks?
since were on this subject, has anybody just taken off their cat and replaced it with a straight pipe? I know with the Camaro/rustang you put this (cant remember the name of it) it goes between the 2nd o2 and the wire, tells the computer it's running normal, so it doent screw up the hp in fact on those cars, it raises hp, I don't know what it'll do to a 4.7L though.

Message: I just asked a gut at Tuffy about doing this, and he said it would be VERY loud, ( he could have been trying to sell me a muffler)to the point of annoying. If you do this, please let me know how it sounds.

Message: Thanks for the input folks. I just got frustrated messing around under the truck. I even had a hard time getting me dremel on that weld to break it loose. May just look into getting a system made at one of the local shops. They're a dime a dozen here in San Antonio.

Message: Thanks for insite CW, fairly new to the site so I'm not to familiar with everyones site, OJ said he was on a tight budget, when I was away at college, I was also on a tight budget and that meant it had to be free or close to.

Message: If you plan on keeping the stock tailpipe, just chop it with a saw in front of the muffler, drop the spare, and pull out the muffler and tailpipe so you dont have to work on it under the truck, seperated mine by cutting the spotweld, slicing the pipe coming out of the muffler and prying the sliced pieces of tubing back until the tailpipe would come free of the muffler.

Message: Moparjoe20, how loud was it after you did this mod, and did it make any performance difference?? Also, was the noise so loud that it got on your last nerve after a while?? :)

Message: Without a muffler I found that the sound was acceptable, but-it's my girlfriends daily driver so I put a dynomax race magnum on it, it's a little louder than a stock R/T. Don't think it would get on my nerves without a muffler 'cause my daily driver is a ram with a cammed up 360 with headers no cats and 2.5" turbo mufflers dumped under the cab.

I live around Tezel and Guilbeu. Actually I live in Waco but I grew up in braun station. My parents moved around a few times and ended up where they are now, around tezel. I do come home once a month to visit my parents and to serve in the reserves. Small world. I'll have to see your truck some time, what kind of dakota do you have???

Message: Reading thru the thread, I noticed that noone seemed to relate if removing the cat will mess up the ECM. My exhaust guy told me not to do it.
I have a 2000 Quad 5.9 4X4...it currently has a 3" pipe off of the cat to a Ravin' 1 into 2 with 2 1/2" out the back. Is my exhaust guy full of it?? or can I remove the cat?
Thanks, any help is appreciated
Noah
