Subject: Heater Hose Replacement Tips? IP: Logged
Message: I had the upper heater hose blow today...what a mess!
I'm going to change both the heater hoses tomorrow. Looks pretty easy except for one thing.
The top heater hose clamp is WAAAAAYYY down on the block, and there is a ton of stuff in the way...alternator or compressor, I think.
Any hints or tools I need?
Thanks.

Message: Well, there is a few things you can do. The easiest and first I would suggest is to try to sneak a long screw driver behind the alternator and try to loosen the hose clamp.
If that doesn't work, you can remove the top bolt that holds your alternator on. Then loosten the bottom. This will allow you to tilt your alternator to the left and give you lots of room.
If the heater hose does not come off easily, slice it off with a knife or razor blade.
Try that first. If you still can't reach it I can tell you how to remove all the bracketry off the front of the engine. While you are in there, you may want to swap your thermostat. It's cheap insurance.

Message: If you can't get a screw driver to work and the clamp has a hex head, you might be able to get a quarter inch drive socket on it by using the right combination of extensions.
