i have a 98 5.2l reg cab 5 spd dak. i have 202 (275 cfm) ported heads, 544 lift cam from hughes, 52mm tb, m1, mopar headers, 1.6 rr's, hypertech programmer, electric fan, crank pulley, and full exhaust true duals no cats. anyways.... i came accross a 03 lightning last night and left him with his thumb up his butt!! beat em by five car lengths. also i raced my buddys dads 02 auto ss camaro. i barely nudged him out in the quarter. i just thought that i would share these events with you guys. this combo that i have is very similiar to martys lightning killer package at krcperformance.com , and yes it did infact kill the lightning. alright gotta go. start talking....

I'm with black2003 on this one, take off the Lighting's supercharger and it's pussy engine can't beat diddly squat. Also, "Da Killa," the only way the Lightning qualifies as a stock truck is because the supercharger is under warranty; the s/c isn't even made by Ford. Lightning owners (and Chevy owners too) suffer from engine envy, meaning that they know damn well that without forced induction or nitrous, they don't have a snowball's chance in hell of beating a Mopar. End of story.

hell, adding a few thousand dollars worth of mods to a truck that is rated at close to half the power and less than half the price seems to be a pretty darn good deal.

Killa, a Paxton in a regular cab Dakota will go mid to low 13s. I wouldn't count those chickens before they hatch. Considering that's with an engine controller that was never intended for forced induction and I think that's respectable.
Give it some computer tweaks and you don't have a prayer unless you get into some significant mods with your L.

There are several examples in the R/T club of guys doing mid to low 12s with 150 shots plus a few bolt-ons or blowers with stock heads/cam. A couple of guys beating on the 12 sec door with N/A stock longblocks in regular cabs. High 12s is not gonna cut it.
We don't really want to continue this, do we?

Plus, "D. K.," the laws of physics are on the Dakota's side. Smaller size + better aerodynamics + larger engine + competent driver = Lighting getting its ass handed back to it. Plus, when we're through with your piddly Lightning, we can attach a chain to our trailer hitch and pull the rear end out of your truck (or the front end, whichever you prefer). Accept that you are wrong and go back to watching Blue's Clues.

I don't think you beat the SS camaro. Sorry for the insult. I have a buddy at work and i went to the track with him, and the only mod he has is a drop in K&N and he ran 12.9. I have more mods then you in the same truck, but auto and can't beat him and barelyhang with the lightning. just a thought!

first!! a camaro SS is way slower then a lightning stock for stock anyday!! come on guyz, its like 330 vs. 380 (maybe if the SS was a 6spd it would be close) a SS couldnt run a 12.9 haha those craparos are heavy as hell, as for the lighting that lost, he prolly raced but didnt get good traction due to bad driver skills, anyways I SAW U GRAHPITE DAKOTA WITH 20S IN SPORT TRUCK MAG AND HOW MUCH WAS THAT INNOVATIONS COVER ? An SS doing 12.9, that sounds about right. My buddy has a 99 Z28 that ran a 13.4 with K&N FIPK and SLP catback exhaust. At that same time there was an 02 Lightning at the track, he couldnt hit 14 flat, maybe it was just him, but I dont really think so. And the weight thing... A Camaro is heavy? Really? Since when is 3400lbs that heavy? How about your Lightnings 4600lbs? Is that heavy too? Since you obviously dont know what your talking about (this whole message is to you ttt), why dont you just get off this site???

Aren't the SS Camero's the base modle V8 just like the Mustang GT is the lowest model V8 Mustang? Those SS's would be no where near the 12's. The Vette ZO6 is barely there with 100 more HP!!!
The Dak's are lighter I agree and if available with a S/C would kill any heavy F150. I like FOrds too. So the argument ios kinda dumb. Apples to oranges. And the next Lightning is gonna have near 500 HP with the newer engine and the new refridgerated tank of water for the intercooler all set for drag racing STOCK with a waranty. Hey, their doing it with a waranty, so that's gotta be cool!
Plus, btw Ford has made 400HP with NO BLOWER in the limited 5.4 Liter Cobra R. It just had some nice Heads and a Velocity stack intake. Nice hardware, all brute power and that car wasn't even built for the 1/4 mile drag.
No big deal, but I'm just pointing out that they did it without a super charger on the same size engine.
I still like my Dak. The Lightning couldn't carry my entire family and pull my Quad!

The 5.9l will be always a better engine than the 5.4 lightining engine. just put a blower and headers on your 360ci dak and smoke all the lightnings on your way!

ummmm.... stock for stock a camaro SS will beat a lightning.
believe it or not but the camaro SS is a CAR and the lightning is a TRUCK. That more than makes up for the 50 hp (aerodynamics and weight). HP isnt everything... just because one vehicle has more doesnt mean its gonna dominate the other. I have beat two different lightnings' times at the local track. But even with all the crap i had done to my truck, they still had to be making close to 100 more hp than my truck.
playsonbadboys, a SS camaro can run 12s stock. The editor of GM High Tech Performance has done it with a Z28, a SS and a WS6... although he is a damn good driver (and that was on street tires). I am not saying every camaro can do that... just that its been done before and again. Whats even cooler is when you put some boost on a LS1. The ATI twin intercooler kit basically gets a stock LS1 to around 450-475 hp. I watched one with some head porting and cam work dyno 576 rwhp. I'll take two.

I saw a Cobra R in a Ford showroom (I was there because one of my friends was car shopping), and that thing had nearly every piece of aftermarket equipment you can shake a stick at. (And the funny thing is that you can get 75% of the parts from the Tire Rack) It made 385 hp/385 tq, and still couldn't beat a stock ZO6, also with 385/385, despite all of the weight reduction and added parts the Cobra R had. Not to mention that the Cobra R will cause hearing loss due to the complete lack of sound insulation, so you don't have to worry about not having a stereo; you also don't have to worry about listening to back seat drivers, because it doesn't have a back seat.
I can't wait for the Ram SRT-10. That truck actually has functional modifications (appearance came as a result), and the beast 505 c.i. Viper V10, making at least 500 hp and 525 tq NATURALLY ASPIRATED! That is more than the new Lightning will make even with the retarded coolant flush system for its s/c. Jesus Christ, put a turbo or two on the SRT-10, and you're looking at 750-800 hp/700-900 tq! (I know some of you are going to dispute those figures, so recall the Hennessy twin turbo Viper, with 833 hp/925 tq from 488 c.i.)

The Lightning and the SS are some heavy contenders for ass-kicken automobiles, but they are not unbeatable.
And, not all run the greatest of times, due to a lot of factors...track prep, driver skill, elevation, etc....
I have slips from where I ran a 2000 SS Camaro that ran a 14.0@102 with a 2.3 60ft time. The mph tells you it was capable of running quicker, but it still took him 14 seconds to hit the 1/4.. I also have a slip from my last outing of a 2001 Lightning that I ran, that posted up a 14.6 @ 97mph. On the other side of the token, I ran a WS6 that ran a 13.30 @106mph supposedly bone-stock. There are a lot of variations in racing. I've raced some 12 second Mustangs, that I crossed the line before they did due to a poor reaction time. At the same time, I've almost been beaten by 14 second cars, because I was snoozing at the light.
Just keep in mind there's always somebody out there who's faster.
I hang out with Lightning, Camaro, Mustang owners, and they are cool when it comes to racing. We all respect one another when we get our clocks cleaned, or vice versa...It is fun though to run into someone who is just a cocky sucker, and leave him scratching his head when he gets his arse waxed.

I've seen a Real 2000 Cobra R at a dragstrip in Richmond VA, last year It ran a 11.1 @129 It was greatest thing I've ever seen. Totally stock down to the 18"BFG KD's the only thing it had was a Navigator Vortech Supercharger Kit making 10psi should've got that thing on Video.

Dak Killa, just stop writing...it might make you appear less stupid. You keep on saying "Well, this car was stock, even down to the door handles. Other than the intercooled supercharger pumping 14 psi." A "stock" Cobra R with a s/c isn't stock. Also, if you think 11.1 was fast, try the STREET LEGAL Hennessy twin turbo Viper. 1/4 mile time of 9.99 seconds, on street tires, in front of crowds of people. It was in Motor Trend a little over a year ago.
Also, the difference between a track vehicle and a street vehicle is that the street vehicle is STREET LEGAL. That means no slicks, no radical cams, no sound violations. I could take a top fuel dragster out on the street, but it wouldn't be legal. If it were, you would have jackasses in beater funnycars racing each other down main street, crashing, and damaging property.
