Subject: check engine light after headers

Message:
Hi i have a 99 R/T and i just put mopar performance headers on it followed by a y pipe into a cutout and then into a 3" inlet flowmaster. No cats. Well tonight i got as far as the cut out and decided to take it for a spin with no muffler hooked up. Mind you I have the 2 O2 sensors after the headers and 1 O2 sensor in the middle of the "y" in the y pipe and then i have the cat box coupled in where the post cat sensor should be. Well i get half way around the block and the check engine light came on. with all the sensors in place and the cat box why did it come on? Is it just cause i have no back pressure? Also on the drivers side O2 Sensor the bung was a little stripped out so JB welded the sensor into it. I know its shabby but it got the job done and i got no JB weld onto the actual part that goes into the pipe.Thank you for any input.

you got the check engine light because the computer saw/see's that there is now more oxygen and other gases in your exhaust strem compared to what was there befor, hence now it thinks that your cat. or sensors are bad, try clearing the computer, and driving normally(i.e. fairly easy) for a couple miles and see if it helps. theoretically clearing the computers memory will make it forget what the "old sensors" were seeing. if that doesnt do it it's beacuse without the cats and such the exhaust gas mixture is still out of the parameters of what the comp. likes and you may need to get them changed with a custom flash.....hope this helps......
