Message: I've pulled a 5,000 lb, 25 ft camper something like 15,000 miles in the past two years. Switched to Mopar synthetic 75-140W in the rear diff only, due to all the horor stories about burning out the rear ends while towing. I haven't had any problems. One note you might be interested in: Dodge boys said the Mopar fluid did have friction modifier in it, and I believed them. Rear end chattered so I bought the friction modifier and added it. The chattering stopped. Never did find out if Mopar synthetic 75 - 149 has friction modifer or not?

Message: No it doesn't come with the friction modifier in it. As you found out you need to add a bottle.

Message: Hard to tell I went from a 5.2 auto 3.55 to a 4.7 5 speed 3.92. My 4.7 would rip the hitch off of my old 5.2 but it was alot different.

Message: Does anyone know specifically any towing mirrors that fit on a Dakota's 5X7 mirrors? I'm having a hard time trying to find anything.

Message: The cheapo versions with the two rubber straps work great and don't rattle like I heard the other style can. Available at RV stores or prbably JC Whitney.

Message: I have a Durango'00, 4.7 with 3.55 and factory tow package, will be towing a 4000 lb. TT. Other than keeping out of overdrive and investing in gasoline stock, anybody have any words of wisdom? I also have the sport mirrors-- the McKesh will likely do the job, but look like hell and could ruin a door if they hit anything. CIPA said to use the clamp-ons, 10 bucks each.

Message: Dakota with same specs, I get 11 mpg towing that kind of weight - not that bad. I leave the OD on, it only catches high gear in low load situations, like downhill.

Message: 4.7 sucks at towing?
I don't think the 5.2 comes close to the 4.7 in towing. Maybe you got a lemon, LOL!
I tow with OD on these days. Otherwise as I've said before I get less than 10MPG!
This last trip to the dunes I got close to 13 MPG. My best so far and that was with the 195 T-Stat BACK in! I'm not sure what my load is. I've got a 12 foot trailer with a rear gate and some sides on it. Have a Yamaha Warrior in it, a Heavy as sh*t Polaris for the wife in it, the kids Honda 70 Quad, another mini rail was in the bed. A family of four with all sorts of camping gear, ice chests, you name it we brought it.
It stays in OD (5th gear in auto) quite a bit. It jumps to 4th and occasionally 3rd when it really needs to. I can't complain.
We are going to the dunes again in 2 weeks. I should have my HO cams this weekend. I'll get to see what difference that makes.

Message: Recently towed a 6200 trailer with my Jeep. O/D on and on flat highway no problem towing in 5th gear with lockup. Best towing machine I have ever owned by far. Your dak's should be similar.
