Message: is it possible for too strong a valve spring to hurt you? I have a comp cam with about 500 lift so I put the mopar performance ones in that can handle up to 700 lift--now the truck doesn't lope at all and doesn't feel as strong. I went to the track and lost a half a second and 4 mph! It was about 20-25 degrees hotter that time and the humidity was 100% compared to maybe 30% humidity the time before. I don't know if it was coincidence with the heat or what. I'm thinking about putting my stock ones back in. What do you guys think?

Message: I cant see the springs being the problem. Double check the lash/preload spec.

Message: Sure, valvespring seat and open pressures have a lot to do with how an engine runs. Stock valvesprings with aftermarket cams can exhibit valve float at higher RPMs, or coil bind due to aftermarket cam exceeding permissible lift of stock valvespring. When using heaver valvesprings, in extreme cases the valvespring open pressures are enough to collapse a lifter, bend pushrods or wipe a cam lobe. Its always best to use the spring recommended by the cam manuf and check installed height, coil bind and lifter preload.
good luck

Message: i asked comp if I needed to change my springs and they said no, even though I have about 480 lift and my stock springs supposedly bind at 450. The cam has been in the truck with the stock springs for about a year now and ran hard, wouldn't ya think it would have broken by now if it was gonna? I don't know if I should stick with the stiffer springs or put my stock ones back in--they sure did lope a lot better!
