Subject: 45 mph vibration IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2000 Quad Cab, 4.7 with 3.92, 4X4. Lately I've noticed a vibration that occurs when I'm driving between 45 and 50 mph and is most notable just after the automatic transmission has shifted into overdrive.
I thought originally that perhaps the wheels were out of balance, because that's the type of vibration I can feel in the steering wheel, but I had the wheels balanced a couple of days ago and it didn't help matters any.
When the vibration occurs at about 45 mph, disengaging the overdrive button seems to help matters some. As I say, the vibration seems more prominent and notable just after the transmission has shifted into overdrive. I also notice that upon shifting into overdrive at this speed, the truck almost feels as though it's not getting enough fuel.
If I increase the speed the vibration gradually goes away in accordance with the speed increase.
Any ideas of what is causing this and what can be done to fix it? Thanks in advance.

Message: I should have mentioned also that I only have about 18,500 miles on this truck, if that makes any difference.

Message: Check your transmission fluid level. If it is fine, check your front and rear-ends for proper lubrication. When I got my 1995 Dakota 4x4 CC, the front-end was a little low (not much, just a tad) and because of this, if I drove at 55 or above and warmed it up, then turned at below 10mph, it would grind and moan. No gear damage was done, but it sounded HORRIBLE.

Message: DH,
It's in the Tranny, Dakota's are known for this!My 99 V6 3.9L 4X4 had the same prob. Nothing to do with the rotors or tranny fluid. You'll notice it especially in the cold weather. When the overdrive engages you get a vib around 45mph and goes away at 50-55mph. Dealer told me that its common and nothing to worry about. if you only have 18,500 take to them and see what they can find.
