Message:
bought a used axle off of ebay( 8.25 , posi, 3.92 ) and it came off a 97 4x4 dak. where you mount the u bolts to is all upside down compared to the axle on my truck currently. i'm at a loss i don't know what the crap to do. would a flip kit work or does anyone know anyhting about the 4x4 axles on a 97 that can help me? also where the drive shaft goes into the differential the yoke is different than on my truck. did i get shafted on the axle and someone is just telling me its from a dakota? Chill dude. It doesn't sound like you got screwed. You're just the victim of design differences and changes. Springs mount above the axle on a 4x4 and below the axle on a 4x2. A flip kit might work or you might have cut off the mounts and weld them on the bottom (more likely). Also, since your saying the driveshaft won't connect up, I'm guessing that you have a '00 and up truck? I believe that year they started using a different setup on the yoke. You can get your driveshaft modified to get the right connector so you can use that rear end.
