Subject: Truck DIED, help IP: Logged
Message: OK, 98 CC 5.2 L bout 69000 miles
runnning 1- Kicker ZR 240
1- Rockford HE2 15"
with 8 gauge runnin at 2 ohms 300 watts
now always with this amp the lights dim with loud spikes in the bass, even in my old car. well 2night, the lights almost totally went out could feel the engine lose power like the spark plugs were not sparking i assume... so i said f*ck it, and shut everything down, well about 2miles after i did that. the truck died, completly shut off going 40mph on a off ramp. got out and disconnect the inline fuse, and started her back up, got back to my house let'her run for a lil while no problems the rest of the night.... we'll see in the morning though... any thoughts as to what this might be from, i am clueless... this is the second car iv had this set up in... no problems in the old car xcpet the alternator went in it, but i would expect taht at 198000 miles, but to have the truck die is a lil weird, and help would be great, its been running fine with the fuse out, but i miss the sub, helpp

Message: Sounds like you really pissed off your charging system. If it continues to do it have your alternator tested/replaced with a larger amperage alternator.

Message: That's asking for trouble unless you're sure the wiring will support it.

Message: Yeah if you push too many amps through a wire setup for less, it can get real hot, melt, or catch fire in worst-case scenarios. I would see about installing a second battery for the sound system. I did this on my Bayliner boat. One battery has the soul purpose of cranking my 50hp outboard, and the other runs my radio, lights, livewell, etc etc. Just make sure you wire it properly so both batteries will be charged by the alternator and so they won't try to push the whole truck, which would either double your voltage or double your amperage depending on how you wired it.
