Our 93 Dakota 4x4 5.2 won't turn over. Three days ago, after two straight days of heavier than usual driving, the Dakota started, I backed out of the drive way, but when I put it in drive the engine stopped. It did not start again. I pushed it into a street parking spot and let it sit there over night. It was about 20 degrees outside. The next evening it was considerably warmer and I was able to start it. Since I did not have the time to work on it, I just pulled it back into it's position in our driveway (it is not garaged). The next night (last night, day 3) I was able to start it twice after work. My wife convinced me not to take it to drive it until the next day (today) when it would be light outside. Today (colder again) I cannot start it. I sprayed it with some starter fluid, it starts, but stops immediately with one loud clunk after one rotation.
Based on investigations I've done on discussion boards I think it is a fuel filter, but lowering the fuel tank is not something I want to attempt.
Any one have any other ideas? Remember it's cold here and truck is not garaged.

Maybe you got the same problem I just had with my '91 318, check my post on the general board under "No fuel, D'OH!" Never know. Or maybe it's your fuel pump, they're known to fail on Dakotas. Start by checking if you have fuel then if you do go on to spark. I also had a bad pick-up coil summer just passed that caused some weird intermitent problems. Good luck.

Steph.

Got gas. read the "No Fuel, D'oh" post. Hope the Dodge god has blessings for me as well. Fortunately, I'm in my driveway and not in traffic. Does the temperature have anything to do with it? Or is it just coincidental that it starts when the temp goes above 35 F?

Hey I forgot to resolve this last February. Sorry. Anyway, it turned out to be a bad fuel pump. Turns out that temp had nothing to do with it.
