Subject: 03 Quad Cab warning lights

Hi everyone,

I have an '03 QuadCab 4x4 w/4.7. Last week, the various warning lights (check engine, service 4wd, door ajar) all came on while cruising down the highway as well as the annoying "ding" sound that comes on when washer fluid or fuel is low. I got to my destination, turned off the truck, and went about my business. When I came back out to the truck and started it up, only the check engine light was on. Called a dealer in the area, and they said it was probably the Timer Relay Control module. So I brought it into the garage, and they hooked up the tester. 45 minutes later, the tech comes and tells me that they found nothing wrong, got a code of "NO CLUSTER BUSS" and couldn't test any further because there were no fault codes. They reset the check engine light and told me that it was probably just a loose fuel cap (why the cap would suddenly come loose is beyond me...plus when you close it it actually clicks into place anyway). On the way home, about 20 minutes after the dealership, the service 4wd light came on again, and the damn dinging started again. Got home and turned off the truck and then back on, and no warnings whatsoever. The weird thing is that the truck seems to have less power than it did when I bought it (it only has 4400 miles on it now) and horrible fule milegae too. When I first got it, it was all I could do to keep the wheels from spinning. Now it won't do it even if I try. Only weird thing now is that the gear indicator usually stops at N even though the lever is the D position, which forces me to put it back into N then back into D for it to actually go into drive (sometimes all of the gears are lit at the same time, but the truck doesn't go anywhere). Also the radio continues to play even once I'm out of the truck and closing the door (but not always). I don't have power windows or locks. Any ideas??? Sorry for the long-winded post. Thanks!

Sounds like the wiring in your dahs is screwy. If the dealer said they got a "no cluster buss" code, then they shoudl have fixed the reason for the no buss. This is probably the reason fro the lights and the ding sound as well and the shifter lights malfunctioning. Not sure about the radio, but it might tie into everything.

I had some problems like you describe with my 2wd CC. They ended up having to replace both the engine computer and the chassis computer in my truck... All when I only had 1500 miles on it. They finally called DC and they said there was a problem with the computers.

Thanks for your input. I made an appointment with the dealer. The soonest they could get me in was TWO WEEKS!. I told the guy "hope it doesn't die or burnup between now and then" and the guy said "yeah...". Nice 5-star service.

I had a problem with my 03 truck at about 3300 miles. All the indicator lights came on and had a loss of power to the engine. I had taken it to the dealership and they found that the PCM power control module was defective. They had to replace my PCM twice. So far i haven't had any more problems since then. It seems like dodge needs to work on their computers to the trucks. I see many problems with them.

Sonny: when your indicator lights came on, is that when you had a power loss? Was it dramatic or just a little bit? Also, how long was your rig in the shop each time the pcm had to be replaced? Thanks for the info.
