Subject: ASE chip for 4.7!? IP: Logged
Message: While looking thru the "sick of 4.7" thread, I noticed a posting from asechip that has a chip for the '01 4.7? Seems like this is something many people have been after. Does anyone know about the chip. THe price is pretty fair, and the claims and guarantee sound pretty good. 10% hp for $450 sounds pretty substantial.

Message: I got the same info from ASE when I emailed them. I posted it a while back, and I still haven't seen anyone that used one, or talked to anyone that could tell me an actual gain. Hopefully someone can inform us.

Message: My question is "Is this a chip or the entire computer?" Do we send in the stock computer to have it flashed? If it is just an add-on chip then I am also curious as to the differences between it and the jet stage II. Thanks in advance.

Message: I would be cautious of ASE Chips. I see the posting that states 8% improvement in both horsepower and torque now. When I and others inquired several months ago they were quoting 10% improved horsepower and 12% improved torque. What happened in two months to cause such a loss in power? I asked for dyno charts in my original inquiry yet received nothing but a form reply. This sounds all too fishy to me. I'll stick with my jet chip for now. In my opinion it works great, produces same power as any of these flashes/chips and if the chip ever fails all I need do is unplug it and send it back to Jet for a replacement...not to mention it only cost me $200 delivered. If you want your speed limiter removed just go to your dealer and ask them to flash it to have it removed.

Message: BTW the dealer can't remove the speed limiter. I know I work for one. I know of no flash that removes the speed limiter. It is there for safty reasons to prevent you from driving faster than the tires can handle.

Message: notice the difference in performance gain is 8%/8% for the 4.7L...the 5.9/5.2L dakotas and rams claim 10%/12%
they have been consistant...although i would look for some dyno results...i may be ordering one of their chips for my ram because there are no other alternatives that are reasonable for 01 dodge ram's. As far as jet goes...they have been proven to be crap.
http://www.fast4x4.net/dyno_1_page.htm
there are dyno's on that page that show that the chip gains throttle response for our engines but not WOT gains of anything and possibly WORSE than stock.

Message: CW: The dealer has slightly brainwashed ya. ;)
The rating on the R/T factory tires is 130MPH (HR). So why is the limit set to 115mph?
What about the folks who have put ZR or VR rated tires on them? Can't the dealer raise the limit then as the tires can handle a higher speed.

Message: The only way of me ,as a mechanic, can update a controller is with the MDS 3, mopar diagnostic system. This system limits me to programing comtrollers to whatever dodge says there are no options and no extra modifications that I can do. I just punch in the controller part number and then it will let me program that controller to that part number. I have tried to fool it by putting in the wrong part number on the diesels and making a regualr one to high out put but it will not let me. But there are differing speed limiters out there. As for what the vehicle came out with, is what you will have to live with unless you get a custom flash.

Message: Alright the reason may not be tires I just didn't want people going to the dealers to have the speed limiters removed and finding out the dealer can't do it, thats all. BTW this is the site that brain washed me into thinking it was tires :)
Next time I talk to chrysler tech I will try to remember to ask him why the limiters are set where they are.

Message: Chill. Bobby was just offering information; its all good...The general consensus is that the Jet chips don't work, but certain flashes do. I haven't seen any mention lately about ASE. KRC Performance is a good 4.7 source. They are a sponsor of www.dakotausa.com .

Message: hey CW, ive tried the same thing as you with trying to fool the MDS2 with a different part number. ive also tried to do a FLASH PROGRAMMING FAILURE RECOVERY. i started a flash on my 02 4.7 RC and then aborted it in the middle of the ERASURE PHASE by unhooking the DRBIII. then i tried to flash it with the software from a 4.7HO jeep. enough said it didnt f'in work. i was hoping it would but no go. i also had to go back and do a recovery on my PCM to put the original software back into it. let me know if you have ever tried some stuff like that

Message: I don't think CW is here any more, haven't seen a post from him in quite a while. What's your take on how they determine the speed limiters ? I think its driveline related, seems like the 2WD quad cabs with the longest driveshafts get the lowest limits.

Message: I have a 02 Quadcab 4.7 Auto. It cuts out right at 98mph. Here's a question for the dealer guy's. I just put on new tires. I went from the stock 255-65-16's to 265-70-16's. My dealer says I need to be reprogrammed for the new tire size. What hat will I gain from this? I know I have lost low end power and mpg's with the new tires.
Thanks
